Junior Infrastructure Engineer

This role can be based anywhere in Italy.
Role Purpose
An infrastructure engineer who will work within the Regional Engineering. They will deal with development and maintenance of the regional fibre optic network, working both autonomously and in coordination with the rest of the team to achieve the objectives assigned.
Key responsibilities
- To deliver new fibre infrastructure for all changes to the EXA metro and backbone fibre networks pertaining to the region. Audit of network inventory as required.
- To ensure that all design changes, works documents, new network deployment and customer deployments are executed as per design process.
- To work with an FLM to ensure the maintenance both Preventive and Corrective is executed according to the required standard and per agreed SLA.
- To work within the regional infrastructure budget (COR, Capex) while continuously seeking cost saving and efficiencies across all budget lines.
- To assist in managing the process of procurement of infrastructure ensuring compatibility, value for money and adherence to purchasing procedures. This will include the development of business cases justifying incremental expenditure.
- To support the development and negotiation of contracts, including SLAs and Operational Procedures.
- To ensure a close working relationship with suppliers and partners during infrastructure purchasing, installation, provisioning and subsequent operation and maintenance to ensure efficient delivery.
- To control the suppliers are working in compliance with the assigned scope of work, contracts, applicable regulations.
- To maintain the relationship with public authorities and other third parties in relation to the Rights of Ways.
- To ensure good quality infrastructure as built design handover to network operations. Provide support to Sales and Sales Engineering for customer prospects.
Provide regular and ad-hoc reports as required by central management and functional teams.
- Identify and address issues that affect network security, reliability or maintainability
- To work with Sales, Products, Finance and Business Development to identify opportunities for additional business value creation through network expansion and/or services acquisition.
Individual Profile
- Good experience working in the fibre optic field and Layer 2 Network Area. Strong knowledge of fibre optic testing (OTDR, PMD & Power Meter). Strong knowledge of fibre characteristics and optic interfaces. Prior experiences in deployment of network infrastructure projects, plant protection and relocation projects. Strong project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple fibre optic & civil projects
- Good commercial awareness and negotiation skills
- Self-motivated with good organisational skill
- Able to work under pressure and able to resolve problems
- Ability to adapt in a multi-cultural environment
- Language: Must be fluent in English.
