The Settlement™
In 1777, a fleet is headed towards an uninhabited, volcanic island in the Pacific. A year later, the same island is now home to a group of cultured ones who built a hut out of thatch, mud and wood. This new home of theirs is called The Settlement™, a place where they live peacefully, study the Arts, and maintain a social structure.
The Settlement™ is an international cenacle of harbingers committed to ethnomusicology. Ethnomusicology is the multidisciplinary exploration of music and sound embedded within cultural life, examining its social, cognitive, biological, and comparative dimensions through immersive fieldwork, observation, and analysis. Jaap Kunst, who coined the term in his foundational 1950 text Musicologica,
defined its central mission as investigating "the study of the traditional music and musical instruments of all cultural strata of mankind."
Curators, Cultural Researchers, and Harbingers pave the way to artistic and holistic fulfillment. In the ever-changing world of private philanthropy and patronage, little treasured objects begin to shine restlessly; they've been called Curios: unusual pieces created to restore the function of Art.
