Dysbiosis, or an imbalance in the gut microbiota, can lead to increased low-grade systemic inflammation, a hallmark of many cardiometabolic conditions, promoting insulin resistance,



endothelial dysfunction, atherosclerosis, and heart failure. The project involves initiating and recruiting a cohort study of patients with varying degrees of progression of cardiometabolic diseases with the aim of:

Studying personalized approaches based on the microbiome and metabolome for risk prediction;

Identifying the role of specific microbial and metabolic signatures as biomarkers;

Evaluating the impact of early microbiome and metabolome composition on long-term cardiometabolic health.
