The opportunity:

We’re looking for a Senior Underwriter, Financial Lines to join us in Milan.

Following strong and sustained growth across Europe, we are excited to be expanding our award-winning product offering into Italy. This is a rare opportunity to help build something from the ground up; a high-performing Financial Lines proposition, a strong local team and trusted broker partnerships that reflect the Markel style — entrepreneurial, collaborative, specialist and focused on sustainable, profitable growth.

What you’ll be doing:

Contributing to the development of Markel’s Financial Lines presence in Italy, building a sustainable portfolio
Managing and developing the Italian D&O; SME underwriting team, helping to shape a collaborative, ambitious and commercially focused culture
Underwriting D&O; delegations, schemes, products and facilities, as well as open-market Financial Lines business.




Helping to shape product development, underwriting strategy, guidelines, standards, processes and tools
Building and deepening relationships across the Italian broker landscape, representing Markel in regular broker and client meetings
Identifying new business partnerships and developing innovative solutions that support our growth ambitions in Italy
Working closely with colleagues across Business Development, Technical Underwriting, Claims and the wider European business to challenge, refine and deliver our strategy
Championing continuous improvement, strengthening end-to-end processes and data accuracy as the portfolio grows
Developing cross-selling procedures & tools with current Surety & PI Markel Italian branch insurers & brokers

Our must-haves:

Significant experience within the Italian Financial Lines market, ideally with strong expertise across D&O;
Fluency in Italian and English
People management experienc
