At ewo.digital, we develop digital products that don’t just work, but make a real difference. That’s why we’re looking for a Backend Software Engineer (m/f/d) who is eager to take ownership, tackle technical challenges, and build high-quality software together with a strong team.
You’ll work on the technical foundation of our products — from APIs and business logic to data processing and databases, as well as performance, security, and reliable deployments.
Your responsibilities
Backend Engineering
- You’ll develop new backend features — from APIs and business logic to data processing and database management.
- You’ll continuously improve existing systems in terms of performance, security, stability, and maintainability.
- You’ll write clean, well-tested, and clearly documented code.
- When developing solutions, you’ll think beyond the current use case and consider scalability and long-term maintainability.
- You’ll actively contribute to our technical architecture and microservice structures.
Product & Engineering
- You’ll identify opportunities for improvement in our products and services and actively contribute your ideas.
- You’ll advocate for security, performance, and technical quality.
- You’ll support the definition and continuous improvement of automated testing and deployment processes.
- You’ll have a good understanding of our products and be able to connect technical decisions with the needs of our users and customers.
Ownership & Collaboration
- You’ll analyze and resolve production issues across different products, services, and layers of the stack.
- You’ll take ownership of your features and independently drive them from idea to production.
- You’ll be able to communicate complex technical, architectural, and organizational topics clearly and effectively.
- You’ll contribute to roadmap, architecture, and technical decision-making processes.
- You’ll work in a fast-paced, iterative environment while finding the right balance between speed and sustainable, long-term quality.
What you bring
- Several years of experience in backend development and a solid understanding of modern software development.
- Experience developing and operating APIs and backend services.
- Good knowledge of databases, data models, and business logic.
- A strong understanding of software quality, testing, security, and performance.
- Experience with automated testing and modern deployment processes.
- An understanding of distributed systems and/or microservice architectures is a plus.
- You’re able to analyze technical problems independently and develop pragmatic, sustainable solutions.
- You work in a structured way, take ownership, and can maintain an overview even when dealing with complex topics.
- You communicate openly, clearly, and with a solution-oriented mindset.
- You enjoy sharing knowledge and working with others to develop better solutions.

- Competitive compensation: the planned starting salary is €45,000 gross per year ; depending on qualifications and professional experience, a higher classification and/or higher salary is possible.
