ph3Organizational Setting /h3pThe Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI) is responsible for the economic, social, institutional, governance and policy aspects of FAO's activities related to fisheries and aquaculture and their development, with particular emphasis on human well-being, food security and poverty reduction; post-harvest utilization, marketing and trade with due regard to the protection of the environment, food security and the well-being of fishing communities; collection, compilation, validation, trend analysis and dissemination of the best available and up-to-date fishery statistics and for the syndication of the FAO information on all aspects of world fisheries and aquaculture.
The Division is also responsible for FAO's activities related to the management and conservation of the living aquatic resources used by fisheries and aquaculture, including the biodiversity and ecosystem maintenance, with particular emphasis on most vulnerable and threatened species and habitats; management of responsible fisheries and aquaculture in accordance with modern management standards and best practices; development of fisheries technology, with due regard to the protection of the environment, food security and the well-being of fishing communities, including the safety of fishers and fishing vessels.

/ppThe position is located in the Value Chain Development Team (NFIMV) within the Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.
/ph3Reporting Lines /h3pThe Young Professional Officer (Aquatic Value Chain) reports to the NFIMV Team Leader, under the overall supervision of the Deputy Director, NFI.
/ph3Technical Focus /h3pSustainable aquaculture value chain development.
/ph3Key Results /h3pResearch, technical analysis and project related services to support the delivery of assigned projects, products and services.
/ph3Key Functions /h3ulliAnalyses relevant technical social, economic, environmental, and technology information, data and/or statistics for input in various documents.
/liliMaintains records and updates databases and web pages.
/liliProvides technical support to various projects.




/liliCollaborates in the development of training tools and materials and the organization of workshops/seminars, etc.
/liliParticipates in the organization and follow-up of meetings, consultations and conferences, the production of required materials and the provision of information and assistance to partners.
/li /ulh3Specific Functions /h3ulliSupports the formulation, interpretation and implementation of policy guidelines and best practices for efficient national, regional and international implementation of sustainable aquaculture value chains development under the framework of Blue Transformation.
/liliSupports meetings, expert workshops and consultations with government and non-governmental representatives on policy dialogues or discussions on sustainable aquaculture value chain development.
/liliContributes to the development of project proposals for Blue Transformation, with specific focus on sustainable aquaculture value chains, based on related technical guidelines, including the Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture, FAO Priority Programme Areas and relevant decisions of the COFI Sub-Committee on Aquaculture and Sub-Committee on Fish Trade.
/liliProvides technical support and advisory services to the successful implementation of aquaculture value chain projects.
/liliContributes to establishing and maintaining online knowledge platforms, and to the development of communication material for sustainable aquaculture value chains.
/liliContributes to the organization of technical workshops/consultations for aquaculture value chains-related indicators in FAO Priority Programme Areas and Blue Transformation.
/liliSupports the development and dissemination of knowledge products of sustainable aquaculture value chains, including the Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture.
/liliSupports the design and implementation of capacity development interventions adapted to different stakeholders and institutions involved in the development of sustainable aquaculture value chains.
/liliProvides support to pilot country processes of sustainable aquaculture value chains and complementary strategies at national and farm level.
/liliSupports gathering and analysing information and data on global fish trade and markets, with particular focus on contemporary issues affecting the trade and market dynamics within the global aquaculture value chain development.
/liliPerforms other related duties as required.
/li /ulh3CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING /h3h3Minimum Requirements /h3ulliAdvanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in fisheries, aquaculture, food sciences, biology, management or related disciplines.
/liliOne year of relevant experience in the aquaculture, aquatic food value chains, or trade and market sector.
/liliWorking knowledge (proficiency - level C) of English and intermediate knowledge (intermediate proficiency - level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).

/liliRelevance of experience in organizing international meetings, seminars and training courses.
/liliRelevance of experience in policy and technical guidance in blue transformation.
/liliRelevance of experience in collecting and analysing and summarizing technical information and data /liliRelevance of knowledge and experience in blue economy, policy advice and analysis, food and nutrition security, food systems, and aquaculture /liliRelevance of experience in the preparation, editing and revision of technical/scientific documents /liliRelevance of experience in establishing and maintaining partnerships with UN agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations as well as donors and government institutions and agencies.
/li /ulpNB Please note that candidates should be 32 years of age or younger as of 31 December of the year of application.
