This role is responsible for leading orientation, competency programs, continuing education, career development initiatives, and academic partnerships while promoting evidence-based practice, patient safety, and exceptional patient experiences.
/p h3Position Summary /h3 pThe Clinical Nurse Educator serves as a key resource for nursing staff and leaders by developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs that support onboarding, competency validation, professional development, and clinical performance improvement.
This role partners closely with leadership and frontline staff to foster a culture of learning, excellence, and continuous improvement.
/p h3Key Responsibilities /h3 h3Education Program Development /h3 ul liDesign, implement, and evaluate onboarding, orientation, and competency-based educational programs for licensed and unlicensed coworkers.
/li liDevelop curriculum that incorporates:ul liEvidence-based practice /li liMercy Nursing Professional Practice Model /li liPatient Experience initiatives /li liOrganizational priorities and strategic goals /li /ul /li liEnsure educational content is inclusive and tailored to diverse learning styles, literacy levels, and cultural backgrounds.
/li liSeek and incorporate feedback to continuously improve educational effectiveness and efficiency.
/li /ul h3Orientation Competency Management /h3 ul liDevelop and maintain comprehensive orientation and ongoing competency plans.
/li liCoordinate orientation schedules and educational requirements for new hires.
/li liMaintain accurate records of initial and ongoing competency completion.
/li liMonitor compliance and communicate delinquent education requirements to appropriate leaders.
/li /ul h3Staff Development Learning Support /h3 ul liCreate a learning environment that encourages engagement, growth, and professional development.




/li liUtilize adult learning principles and a variety of instructional methods, including:ul liClassroom training /li liVirtual learning /li liSimulation exercises /li liMock events /li liCase studies /li liSkills validation activities /li /ul /li liServe as a mentor, preceptor, role model, and clinical resource for staff.
/li /ul h3Collaboration Academic Partnerships /h3 ul liPartner with peers to deliver hospital-wide and regional educational programs and residency curricula.
/li liCollaborate with academic institutions and serve as adjunct faculty for School of Nursing partners, as appropriate.
/li liSupport Safe Patient Handling initiatives as a Unit Peer Leader.
/li /ul h3Leadership Performance Improvement /h3 ul liServe as an educational consultant and actively participate on councils, committees, and professional organizations.
/li liCollaborate with operational leaders to identify performance gaps and develop targeted remediation plans.
/li liSupport ministry-wide education strategies and quality improvement initiatives.
/li liAct as a change agent by identifying educational needs and facilitating successful adoption of new practices.
/li /ul h3Communication Professional Engagement /h3 ul liDemonstrate strong communication, conflict resolution, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
/li liProvide timely and constructive feedback to learners and staff.
/li liEffectively communicate research findings, project outcomes, and educational updates to leadership and coworkers.
/li liPromote and support utilization of Mercy patient education resources.
/li liEncourage and assist staff in pursuing professional growth opportunities.
/li /ul h3Clinical Technical Expertise /h3 ul liMaintain competency in unit-specific clinical skills, equipment, and technologies.
/li liDemonstrate proficiency with:ul liElectronic Medical Records (EMR) /li liMicrosoft Office Suite /li liLearning Management Systems (LMS)



/li liScheduling platforms /li liAudiovisual equipment /li /ul /li liMaintain current knowledge of Mercy policies and procedures, including infection prevention, emergency preparedness, HIPAA, and patient privacy requirements.
/li liPerform other duties as assigned.
/li /ul h3Minimum Qualifications /h3 ul liCurrent RN license in the applicable state.
/li liCurrent American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
/li liExperience requirements:ul liBachelor's degree in Nursing or related field: Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience.
/li liAssociate degree in Nursing: Minimum 10 years of hospital nursing experience, or 5 years of hospital nursing experience with active enrollment in an RN-to-BSN program.
/li /ul /li liDemonstrated clinical expertise and knowledge of evidence-based practice.
/li liAbility to positively influence patient care outcomes and clinical practice.
/li liStrong organizational, project management, and multitasking skills.
/li liProficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
/li liKnowledge of clinical equipment and technologies used in patient care delivery.
/li liExperience using educational, presentation, and audiovisual technologies preferred.
/li /ul h3Preferred Qualifications /h3 ul liSpecialty certification or active pursuit of certification relevant to assigned area of responsibility.
/li liMinimum 2 years of teaching, training, or educator experience.
