The Senior PCBA Manufacturing Technology Engineer ensures that PCBAs are ready for industrialization before series production by driving strong design‑to‑manufacturing alignment and reducing risks early in development.
The role focuses on DFM/DFA/DFT, process quality, and process qualification, ensuring that designs are manufacturable, testable, and scalable. It acts as the technical interface between R&D;, NPI, Production, Quality, and EMS partners, driving alignment on manufacturing requirements and industrialization readiness.
In addition, the role includes ownership of PCBA manufacturing equipment and line concepts, covering the definition, specification, selection, and implementation of SMT/THT equipment and assembly lines.
Your Responsibilities DFM, DFA and DFT Excellence:
- Drive and enforce DFM, DFA, and DFT principles across product development
- Review PCB/PCBA designs to ensure manufacturability, assembly robustness, and testability
- Define and maintain design guidelines and industrialization standards
PCBA Industrialization Readiness
- Ensure smooth transition from design → prototype → pilot → series production
- Define industrialization requirements, acceptance criteria, and readiness gates
- Support creation of manufacturing documentation and technical specifications
Equipment Specification & Supplier Selection
- Define technical requirements and specifications for PCBA manufacturing equipment (SMT/THT), including pick‑and‑place, reflow, SPI/AOI, and soldering technologies
- Support the selection and evaluation of equipment suppliers, considering technical capability, scalability, and reliability
- Lead RFQ processes, technical reviews, and supplier benchmarking
Process Qualification & Validation
- Define and support process and product qualification plans
- Support and contribute to PFMEA activities to identify and mitigate risks
- Evaluate process capability, stability, and scalability
Make-or-Buy & Industrialization Strategy Support
- Support make‑or‑buy decisions for PCBA manufacturing processes and technologies
- Evaluate internal capabilities vs EMS solutions in terms of cost, scalability, quality, and risks
- Provide technical input for industrialization and sourcing strategies
Your Qualifications & Skills
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electronical Engineering, Mechatronics, Materials Science, Automation Engineering, or a related field
- Several Years of professional experience in PCBA industrialization / manufacturing engineering, preferably in EMS or electronics manufacturing environments
- Strong Hands‑on experience with PCBA manufacturing equipment and processes, including SMT and THT assembly (e.g., pick‑and‑place, reflow, SPI/AOI, wave/selective soldering)
- Experience in running feasibility studies, prototypes, and pilot projects, including process trials and validation activities
- Understanding of technology maturity models (TRL, MRL) and industrialization methods
- Proven experience in specification, selection, and implementation of PCBA manufacturing equipment, including technical ownership in interactions with equipment suppliers
- Good understanding of Design for Manufacturing / Assembly / Test (DFM/DFA/DFT) principles for PCBAs
- Working knowledge of IPC standards (IPC‑A‑610, J‑STD‑001)
- Familiarity with REACH and RoHS regulations and quality systems (ISO 9001 environment)
- Excellent knowledge of English, Italian and/or German as an advantage
OUR COMMITMENT
