The work includes collection, validation, analysis and dissemination of the best available and up to date statistics on all aspects of the sector. The Division is also responsible for FAO's activities related to the management and conservation of living aquatic resources in accordance with modern standards and best practices, including fisheries technologies and safety at sea; the development of sustainable aquaculture; support for the development of effective value chains of aquatic products, including reducing loss and waste, product development, food safety and health, and access to markets and ultimately to consumers,



in the context of integrated food systems' approaches. /p pThe position is located in the Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. /p h3Reporting Lines /h3 pThe Fishery Officer reports to the Senior Fishery Officer /Team Leader in the Statistics and Information team, NFISI. /p h3Technical Focus /h3 pThe Fishery Officer will support the development, management and analysis of fisheries and aquaculture data and information systems, contributing to the innovation and integration of standards, tools and methodologies along the data value chain. The Fishery Officer will assist in strengthening FAO's capacity to deliver evidence-based policy support, global reporting and knowledge products, and enhance the visibility and accessibility of fisheries and aquaculture information. /p h3Key Results /h3 pCollection and analysis of information, data and statistics and project/meeting services to support programme projects, products and services. /p h3Key Functions /h3 ul liCollects and analyses relevant technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional and technology related information, data and/or statistics to support the delivery of programme projects, as well as products and services. /li liUndertakes analysis, provides technical input for plans and reports and edits/revises technical/scientific documents. /li liParticipates in the development of improved work methods, tools and systems. /li liUpdates databases and web pages. /li liParticipates in multidisciplinary project/work teams. /li liCollaborates in the development of training tools and materials and the organization of workshops/seminars, etc. /li liParticipates in the organization, conduct and follow-up of meetings, consultations and conferences, the development/production of required materials and the provision of information and assistance to partners. /li /ul h3Specific Functions /h3 ul liSupports data management, processing and analysis activities underpinning FAO fisheries and aquaculture knowledge products. /li liContributes to the design of data models and web-based user interfaces for the development of knowledge products. /li liAssists in the development and application of data and metadata standards, methodologies and tools to improve data quality, interoperability and dissemination. /li liProvides support to the maintenance and content management of FAO fisheries and aquaculture web platforms and information systems. /li liContributes to the implementation of web-based information systems and platforms, including content structuring and data integration. /li liContributes to the preparation, editing and review of technical documents, reports and communication materials. /li liSupports capacity development activities and projects, including training and technical assistance to Members on data collection,



management and reporting systems. /li liParticipates in the coordination with partners and stakeholders, including international and regional organizations, in support of data sharing and information initiatives. /li /ul h3CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING /h3 ul liAdvanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in biology, fishery science, natural sciences, marine ecology or related discipline. /li liThree years of relevant experience in fisheries or aquaculture data management, analysis, information systems or related fields. /li liWorking knowledge (proficiency - level C) of English and intermediate knowledge (intermediate proficiency - level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish). /li /ul h3Technical/Functional Skills /h3 ul liWork experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable. /li liExtent and relevance of experience in data and information management, including databases and information systems. /li liRelevance of experience in data modelling, database design and data structures. /li liRelevance of experience in web-based publishing and/or web-content management, including familiarity with dissemination policies and practices; /li liExtent and relevance of experience in collecting and analysing technical information and data, preferably in fisheries or related fields. /li liRelevance of experience in supporting trainings, workshops or capacity development activities. /li liRelevance of experience in project support, including requirements gathering and interaction with technical teams. /li liQuality of analytical skills and ability to synthesize technical information. /li liAbility to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. /li liDemonstrated initiative, sense of responsibility, and ability to work independently and as part of a team. /li /ul h3GENERAL INFORMATION /h3 ul liExtension of fixed term appointments is based on certification of performance /li liFAO reserves the right not to make an appointment. /li liAppointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, accreditation, any residency or visa requirements, and security clearances. /li /ul h3CONDITIONS OF SERVICE /h3 pA competitive compensation and benefits package is offered.
