MECHANICAL DESIGN & R&D ENGINEER – AUTOMATED MACHINERY (FRUIT & VEGETABLE INDUSTRY)

I’m currently recruiting on behalf of a global leader in agricultural automation—a company renowned for its cutting-edge sorting, grading, and packing solutions for the fruit and vegetable sector. They are expanding their R&D; team in Italy and looking for a talented Mechanical Design & R&D; Engineer to drive innovation in automated machinery.

? THE ROLE

As a key member of the engineering team, you’ll take ownership of mechanical development projects from concept to commissioning. You’ll design, prototype, and validate high-performance machinery, working closely with automation and engineering teams across Italy, Spain, and China.

⚙️ WHAT YOU’LL DO

- Design and optimize automated systems for the fruit & vegetable industry (e.g., handling, weighing, packing, palletizing).
- Lead product development projects—from initial concept through prototyping, testing, and field validation.
- Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks (Creo Parametric is a plus).
- Collaborate with automation engineers on equipment integration, debugging, and performance optimization.
- Support prototype construction, industrial field testing, and data-driven problem-solving.
- Work closely with manufacturing teams and suppliers to ensure design-for-manufacturing and resolve technical issues during assembly.




- Produce technical documentation, test reports, and R&D; records.

✅ WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
- Proven experience in automated machinery design—ideally custom/non-standard automation (e.g., box handling, filling, weighing, palletizing, case packing).
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD; Creo Parametric is a plus.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, welding, assembly).
- Ability to lead projects independently and solve complex technical challenges.
- Fluent in Italian or Spanish (English or Mandarin is a strong advantage).
- Willingness to travel occasionally for testing and commissioning.

? PREFERRED (BUT NOT REQUIRED)
- Experience in fruit & vegetable, food, packaging, or logistics machinery.
- Familiarity with industrial automation systems and mechanical integration.
- Previous experience developing products from initial concept to production.
