Organization Description
EU Policy Insight is an independent organization that provides clear, evidence-based analysis of EU law, digital regulation, and policy developments, without representing or being affiliated with any EU institution. We translate complex European legislation into accessible language for professionals, businesses, policymakers, and the public. Our work spans key initiatives such as the AI Act, GDPR, the Digital Services Act, the Digital Markets Act, competition and consumer protection rules, and cybersecurity frameworks.
We closely follow EU institutions, court decisions, and regulatory trends to help stakeholders understand the impact of Brussels on technology, innovation, and the digital economy. Our mission is to make EU policy understandable, accurate, and useful for practical decision-making.
Role Description
Position type: Unpaid volunteer contributor fully remote, flexible hours, no fixed schedule.
The Contributor Policy Researcher writes clear, well-researched analysis on EU law, digital policy, and regulatory topics. You choose the pace and volume of your contributions: some contributors publish regularly, others write occasionally around their studies or professional commitments. There are no minimum hours and no set deadlines beyond those you agree to for a piece you have taken on.
Typical contributions include policy briefs, explainer articles, and structured reports drawing on EU institutional developments, legislative proposals, case law, and regulatory guidance. Contributors may also help with thematic dossiers, background materials for events or briefings,
or new analytical formats — always according to interest and availability.
You will work with editors to shape angles and refine drafts. Topics are largely self-directed: if there is an area of EU digital regulation you want to write about, we will support it.
Contributors work under a written collaboration agreement, retain rights over their work through a non-exclusive licence, receive a byline on everything published, and may step back or withdraw at any time.
Qualifications
Education (required): Applicants must hold a Master's degree or PhD in law, public policy, political science, European studies, economics, or a related field.
Policy and legal analysis: Ability to interpret EU legislation, regulatory proposals, and case law. Experience in public policy analysis, legal research, or regulatory affairs is welcome.
Research and writing: Structured research and evidence-based writing, with an ability to present complex topics in clear, accessible language for non-specialist audiences.
Domain knowledge: Familiarity with EU institutions and decision-making processes. Depth in a specific area digital policy, data protection and privacy, AI governance, platform regulation matters more to us than broad coverage of all of them.
Analytical and critical thinking: Capacity to compare sources, identify trends, assess policy impacts, and maintain independence and neutrality in analysis.
Communication and collaboration: Excellent written English and comfort working with editors remotely.
Additional assets (none required): Prior work with EU policy, technology regulation, or compliance; understanding of AI ethics.
