Sparrowhawk Games is seeking a versatile part-time engineer to help build a light-hearted, single-player indie Metroidvania. Led by a UK industry veteran with 20 years of experience, we are spending the next six months expanding an existing early prototype into a robust proof-of-concept focused on joyous, feel-good mechanics.
The Role This paid contract is ideal for an experienced developer seeking reduced working hours, or someone looking to take on a creative side project. You will work directly with the Game Director to rapidly prototype gameplay mechanics, refine AI systems, and lay a solid technical foundation.

For which tasks (responsibilities)?
- Work across gameplay, AI, UI, and internal dev tools to prototype and iterate on core features.
- Collaborate closely with the Game Director to translate concepts into fluid, intuitive mechanics.
- Write clean,
maintainable C++ code designed for fast-paced iteration.
- Help scope gameplay elements and advise on technical architecture and efficient implementation.
What kind of professional are we looking for?
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional experience using C++ within Unreal Engine.
- At least 1 released title.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging skills, and a great intuitive feel for gameplay mechanics.
Nice to Have
- Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
- Experience setting up or maintaining Perforce servers.
