ppbProgress Rail Signaling Spa /b is looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Software Designer. /ppThe position is based in bItaly and it’s open to our office in Pistoia. /b /ppThe business environment relies heavily on software for many functions inside automated traffic control systems, and the Software Engineers are pivotal in the development of software that provides real solutions. A Software Engineer needs to address the entire software development lifecycle - to analyze the needs, and then design, test and develop software in order to meet those need. /ph3Who We Are /h3pFounded in 1958 in Pistoia, Italy, as ECM, Progress Rail Signaling Spa has been servicing the railway infrastructure for well over sixty years in a constant pursue of innovation and cutting-edge technology. Progress Rail Signaling, part of Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, offers complete signaling solutions under the ECM brand for any railway infrastructure need all over the word. /ph3Job Purpose /h3pSoftware Engineers document this process through the use of diagrams and flowcharts, developing computer instructions through the use of algorithms. A Software Engineer must have a thorough understanding of computer systems, in order to recognize any hardware limitations that could impact software design. /ph3Job duties (Responsibilities and Accountabilities) /h3ulliImproving system quality by identifying issues and common patterns,
and developing standard operating procedures; /liliFollowing the CENELEC prescriptions for safety system development (SIL 4), in particular the process described in the EN standards; /liliEnhancing applications by identifying opportunities for improvement, making recommendations and designing and implementing systems; /liliMaintaining and improving existing codebases and peer review code changes; /liliLiaising with colleagues to implement technical designs; /liliInvestigating and using new technologies where relevant; /liliWriting reports and giving presentations to managers and colleagues. /li /ulh3Experience and Qualifications /h3pThe candidate should have consistent and complete professional experience in a similar position acquired in multinational industrial contexts transportation/ railway /signaling, as well as proven experience with high-level programming languages such as C, C++, Java etc. A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or equivalent experience in related fields is essential. /ppAs technology develops at an ever-increasing pace, it is critical for Software Engineers to stay up to date with the latest developments in hardware, systems and coding. /ppAs well as formal qualifications, a Software Engineer profile shall emphasize:
