JOB TITLE: Data Analyst (Food Security Explorer) TYPE OF CONTRACT: Regular consultancy CST (Level I)

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

WFP is a major provider of food security data and analysis, informing operational decision-making, resource mobilisation and advocacy at country, regional and global levels. Through its assessments, monitoring systems and analytical products, WFP generates critical evidence on the scale, severity and drivers of food insecurity, helping to ensure that responses are based on timely, comparable and actionable information.

To make this information more accessible to the public, partners and internal stakeholders, WFP has developed the Food Security Explorer: a data visualisation platform that presents food security assessment data in a structured, user-friendly and transparent way. The tool aims to facilitate access to processed assessment data, support evidence-based dialogue with partners, and strengthen the visibility and use of WFP’s food security evidence.

As WFP continues to strengthen the standardisation and management of household-level food security assessment data, WFP is seeking a Data Analyst to support the implementation and adoption of the DataBridges Household Module for food security assessments. The consultant will contribute to questionnaire standardisation, data processing and quality assurance, indicator calculation and reporting workflows, ensuring alignment between HQ standards and Country Office operational requirements.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the overall guidance of the VAM Officer (Global Needs),



the Consultant will support the implementation and further development of the Food Security Explorer by strengthening the standardisation, processing and upload of household-level assessment data.

- Support the implementation and adoption of the DataBridges Household Module for household-level food security assessments, ensuring consistency across country offices and compatibility with the Food Security Explorer.
- Support the design and optimisation of automated processing workflows for food security assessment data within the VAM IM Ecosystem, including DataBridges, DataLibrary and Dataviz.
- Develop, revise and maintain standardised and reusable scripts to calculate relevant food security and nutrition indicators from household-level assessment data, ensuring methodological consistency across countries.
- Lead communication with regional bureaux and country offices regarding the implementation of the DataBridges Household Module, providing guidance on assessment standards, questionnaire requirements, data structures and processing workflows.
- Work closely with country offices to ensure that assessment data are correctly uploaded, validated in DataBridges and made available through the Food Security Explorer in a timely and consistent manner aligned with corporate standards.
- Identify data quality, questionnaire, data structure and processing issues, as well as any other bottlenecks during the upload and standardisation phase, and coordinate with relevant colleagues to resolve them.
- Review, maintain and revise HQ-standardised food security assessment questionnaires, including associated XLSForms and Survey Designer configurations, ensuring alignment with country office operational requirements, DataBridges processing standards, data collection tools, and food security indicator calculation methodologies; support the testing and deployment of updated survey instruments.
- Document workflows, scripts and standard operating procedures to support reproducibility, sustainability and future scale-up of the Food Security Explorer.
- Any other related assignments as agreed with the supervisor.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

- Standardised and documented scripts developed or revised to calculate relevant food security and nutrition indicators from household-level assessment data.
- DataBridges Household Module operationalised and adopted by targeted country offices.
- Standardised workflows established for processing household survey data, calculating food security indicators within DataBridges and preparing standardised outputs for reporting and visualisation in the Dataviz Food Security Explorer.
- Country offices supported on the implementation, testing and operational use of the DataBridges Household Module.
- An additional 30 country offices supported to upload assessment data to the Food Security Explorer, with data validated and made available through the platform.
- Standard operating procedures and related guidance developed for country offices and regional bureaux on data preparation, upload requirements, validation processes and troubleshooting.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education

- Advanced university degree in data science, economics, statistics or a related field.

Experience

- At least three years of work experience in food security analysis, household survey data management and WFP’s CARI indicator calculation.
- Demonstrated experience supporting assessment standardisation initiatives, preferably within the WFP VAM IM Ecosystem.

Knowledge & Skills:




- Good knowledge of food security and nutrition indicators commonly used in WFP household assessments, including their calculation, interpretation and data requirements.
- Good understanding of WFP assessment processes and household-level food security datasets, including data cleaning, processing, validation and documentation requirements.
- Experience with WFP DataBridges and the standardisation of assessment datasets for structured processing and upload.
- Proficiency in Python, R or Stata for data cleaning, processing, indicator calculation, quality checks and automation of routine workflows.
- Experience working with databases and structured datasets; knowledge of SQL or other data management tools is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve data quality, structure and processing issues.

Languages

- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.
