Role Description The Zookeeper role at Cinco is a full-time, on-site position based in Cairo, responsible for the daily care and well-being of a variety of animals used in educational and outreach activities. The Zookeeper will perform routine feeding, watering, enclosure cleaning, and habitat maintenance while monitoring animal health and behavior. This role involves safe animal handling, implementation of enrichment activities, and participation in basic training or conditioning to support animal welfare.
The Zookeeper will work closely with educators and staff to support learning programs, assist with record keeping and reporting, and follow all safety, hygiene, and regulatory guidelines. Collaboration with veterinary professionals, adherence to ethical care standards, and occasional weekend or holiday shifts may be required.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Animal Care and Animal Handling, with practical experience in daily husbandry routines.
- Knowledge of Zoology and Animal Behavior to understand species-specific needs and welfare requirements.
- Experience or demonstrated interest in Wildlife care, conservation principles, and ethical treatment of animals.
- Ability to follow safety protocols, maintain clean and secure enclosures, and manage physical tasks such as lifting and prolonged standing.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with educators, veterinarians, and other staff members.
- Attention to detail in observation, documentation, and reporting of animal health and behavior changes.
- Relevant education such as a diploma or degree in Zoology, Animal Science, Biology, or a related field is preferred.
- Prior experience in a zoo, animal shelter, wildlife center, or similar environment is an advantage.
