PLC / Automation Engineer – Italy Location: Italy Contract: 3-6 months Start: ASAP Working Pattern: 3-shift rotation | Fully onsite Rate: €60–65/hour Accommodation: Provided / paid for✈️ Travel: Flights and travel costs coveredThe OpportunityWe are looking for PLC / Automation Engineers to support a live industrial automation troubleshooting project in Italy.The key requirement is strong hands-on experience with Siemens PLCs and TIA Portal, with Omron experience considered an advantage.This is a production support and troubleshooting-focused assignment, rather than a greenfield programming project. You will be responsible for investigating live automation issues, analysing PLC logic, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions to improve equipment reliability and production performance.If you enjoy getting hands-on with complex machinery, diagnosing faults and solving real production problems, this could be an excellent opportunity.What You'll Be DoingTroubleshoot Siemens PLC-controlled production equipmentUse TIA Portal for online diagnostics and fault findingAnalyse existing PLC logic, sequences and interlocksInvestigate recurring equipment faults, stoppages and downtimeDiagnose issues across PLC software, electrical systems, sensors, drives, instrumentation and communicationsTroubleshoot automated machinery and production linesIdentify bottlenecks, intermittent faults and reliability issuesPerform detailed root-cause analysisRecommend corrective actions and technical improvementsCreate clear action plans outlining issues, priorities and recommended solutionsSupport the implementation and testing of corrective actionsWork closely with production,
maintenance and engineering teamsDocument technical findings and any software changesThe core requirement is the ability to systematically diagnose why automated equipment isn't performing correctly and determine the most effective solution.Technical ExperienceWe are particularly interested in engineers with hands-on experience in:Siemens TIA PortalSiemens S7 PLCsS7-1200 / S7-1500PLC diagnostics and online troubleshootingLadder Logic, FBD and/or Structured Text / SCLSiemens HMI / WinCCIndustrial Ethernet / ProfinetDrives and motor controlSensors, actuators and field devicesAutomated machinery and production linesElectrical fault findingMachine sequencing and interlocksCommissioning and start-upProduction troubleshootingRoot-cause analysisExperience with Omron PLCs, including Sysmac Studio or CX-Programmer, would be beneficial but is not essential.Experience with other platforms such as Rockwell / Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff or Mitsubishi is also advantageous.About YouWe are particularly interested in mid-level / medior Automation Engineers with a strong practical background.You should ideally have:2+ years' hands-on PLC / Automation experienceStrong experience with Siemens TIA PortalExperience troubleshooting automated production equipmentThe ability to go online with Siemens PLCs and diagnose live faultsConfidence reading and understanding existing PLC codeStrong fault-finding and root-cause analysis skillsGood understanding of electrical drawings and automation hardwareExperience working in live manufacturing or production environmentsThe ability to distinguish between software, electrical, instrumentation and mechanical faultsExperience working alongside maintenance and production teamsStrong communication and problem-solving skillsA practical, hands-on approachFlexibility to work a three-shift rotationAvailability to work fully onsite in Italy for 3–6 monthsThis opportunity would suit an engineer with several years of Siemens automation experience who enjoys troubleshooting, fault finding and improving real-world production systems.Contract & Package3–6 month contract€60–65/hourAccommodation provided / paid forFlights and travel costs coveredFully onsite in ItalyRotating three-shift scheduleASAP startInterested?
