Join ORiS and help build the future of energy in space.

At ORiS, we are building the technologies that will power the next generation of space missions. Through laser-based wireless power transmission, we aim to overcome the energy limitations of today’s satellites and enable longer, more capable, and more resilient operations in orbit.

As an Optical Engineer, you will design and develop laser-based systems for Wireless Power Transmission, contributing directly to our mission of demonstrating the first-ever satellite-to-satellite energy transfer in Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

You will work at the forefront of photonics and space technology, shaping innovative solutions that will redefine how spacecraft are powered and operated in orbit.

What You Will Do

- Design, model, and test laser and optical subsystems for space applications

- Perform optical link budget analyses and beam propagation simulations

- Support the development of laser transmitter and receiver payloads

- Contribute to alignment, integration, and verification activities

- Collaborate with systems, electrical, and thermal engineering teams

- Participate in design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and qualification campaigns

What We Are Looking For

- Degree in Physics, Optical Engineering, Photonics, or related field

- At least 4 years of experience in laser systems, photonics, or optical engineering

- Strong understanding of laser physics, beam propagation, and optical design

- Experience with optical simulation tools (Zemax, COMSOL, or equivalent)

- Fluent English (C1/C2 mandatory)

Nice to Have

- Experience with space-qualified optical or laser systems

- Familiarity with fiber lasers, high-power diode lasers, or free-space optical communication

- Knowledge of ECSS standards and space qualification processes

Why ORiS

- Work on innovative satellite missions and advanced space technologies

- Play a key role in shaping system-level decisions that directly impact mission success

- Collaborate with highly skilled engineers across multiple technical disciplines

- Gain exposure to cutting-edge space programs and emerging technologies

- Grow professionally within a fast-growing and ambitious space company

- Be part of a culture driven by innovation, ownership, and technical excellence

Our Offer

- Salary Range: €50,000 - €80,000

- EUR 1,000 per year in fringe benefits

- EUR 8 meal vouchers per working day

- Flexible lavoro da remoto arrangements, subject to project needs
