PLC / Automation Engineers
for an industrial automation troubleshooting project in
Italy
. This is a hands-on assignment focused on investigating and resolving
production and automation-related issues on equipment controlled by Omron PLC systems
. The successful engineers will be responsible for troubleshooting production equipment, identifying root causes of recurring faults and downtime, and presenting clear recommendations and corrective actions to improve production reliability. This is not primarily a PLC development role. The emphasis is on
diagnostics, fault finding, root-cause analysis and problem solving within a live production environment
. The initial contract is expected to run for
3–6 months
, with engineers working fully onsite as part of a rotating three-shift schedule. The Assignment Key responsibilities will include: Investigating production and automation issues Troubleshooting
Omron PLC-controlled machinery and production equipment Analysing existing PLC logic to identify software and control-related problems Pinpointing the
root causes of recurring production faults and downtime Determining whether issues originate from PLC software, electrical systems, instrumentation, field devices, communications or machinery Identifying bottlenecks,
intermittent faults and equipment reliability issues Using PLC diagnostics to trace faults through automated sequences Recommending corrective actions and potential improvements Producing clear
action lists
outlining identified problems, priorities and recommended solutions Supporting implementation and testing of corrective actions where required Working alongside maintenance, engineering and production personnel Documenting technical findings, modifications and recommendations The emphasis is on being able to
systematically diagnose why automated equipment is not operating correctly and determine what needs to be done to resolve the problem
. Shift Pattern The assignment will operate across a
three-shift rotation
: Morning:
06:00–15:00 Afternoon:
14:00–22:00 Night:
21:00–06:00 Candidates must be comfortable working a rotating shift pattern for the duration of the assignment. Technical Background Direct experience with Siemens Tia Portal
automation systems
is strongly preferred, ideally including: Siemens Tia Portal Omron PLC programming and troubleshooting Sysmac Studio and/or CX-Programmer PLC fault finding and online diagnostics Ladder Logic and/or Structured Text HMI troubleshooting Industrial networks and communications Servo systems, drives and motion control Sensors, actuators and field devices Automated machinery and production lines Electrical fault finding Machine commissioning and start-up Root-cause analysis of production downtime Machine safety and safety circuits Engineers with strong troubleshooting experience using
Siemens, Rockwell / Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff or Mitsubishi
may also be considered,
particularly where they have previous exposure to Omron. Candidate Profile We are primarily interested in
mid-level / medior Automation Engineers
rather than senior-level consultants. Ideally, you will have: 2+ years of hands-on PLC/automation experience Previous experience troubleshooting automated production equipment Good knowledge of
Omron PLC systems
or similar industrial PLC platforms Strong fault-finding and root-cause analysis capabilities Ability to go online with a PLC and systematically diagnose equipment faults Ability to read and understand existing PLC code Understanding of electrical drawings and automation hardware Experience working in live manufacturing or production environments Ability to distinguish between software, electrical, instrumentation and mechanical-related faults Experience working alongside maintenance and production teams Ability to work independently and communicate technical findings clearly A practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving Willingness to work a
three-shift rotation Availability to work fully onsite in
Italy for 3–6 months This position does
not require a senior-level engineer
