About us Ottino is a historic family-run leather goods house, founded in Florence in the 19th century and rooted in the Tuscan artisan tradition. We work with local craftspeople to create bags and leather accessories of the highest quality, using fine hides tanned and worked entirely in Tuscany.
Four generations have built this brand while keeping craftsmanship, Made in Italy quality and attention to detail intact. Our reputation is established in Florence and abroad, largely through word of mouth among visitors who return to the city over the years. We believe in an ethical approach to how we make and sell: we care for, maintain and repair our products years after purchase.
The role We are looking for a sales associate to help run our shop in central Florence day to day.
You will
- welcome customers and guide them in choosing bags and leather accessories, with attentive advice that never feels pushy
- tell the story behind the products — where the leather comes from, how it is worked, the history of the workshop — because this is what our customers come for
- look after the shop display and handle till operations
- contribute to our social media presence, proposing content and ideas to broaden customer engagement
- build relationships with regular customers over time and support customer loyalty
The team is three people, including this role: a close-knit setting where every position has direct visibility on results and real autonomy.
Requirements Essential
- experience in retail sales, with an aptitude for assisted selling
- excellent interpersonal and listening skills, with care for both an international clientele and our established Florentine and Italian customers
- good command of English
- accuracy in till and stockroom work
- reliability and the ability to work in a small team
Desirable
- a second foreign language (Japanese is particularly valued, given our long-standing market there)
- an interest in fine craftsmanship and leather goods
- familiarity with the main social channels and content creation
