The role is part of the Flight Management organizational unit of Avionic Systems Development area. The unit is responsible for the design, development and qualification/certification activities related to the main on‑board computer of Leonardo Helicopters programs (both civil and military), specifically of the software application responsible for the Flight Planning and Sensor Management functions that will be hosted on the target computer.
Sub‑System Engineers interface with the Avionic System Engineering functional area for all the aspects pertaining to the integration of the computer and its application in the helicopter avionic system. Other external areas interfaced include CPE offices, Flight Test Pilots and Engineers, Procurement and RMS departments. Flight Management Engineer goals: Analyze avionic system requirements and customer needs to define subsystem SW requirements and design solutions for the development and certification of embedded, real‑time, safety critical applications for the Flight Management System installed on Leonardo Helicopters product lines. Activities and responsibilities of the role include: understanding customer needs and expected outcome collaborating with the development team to identify design solutions in line with expectations and with project guidelines (plans, standards, technical and schedule constraints, budget) contributing and coordinating the activities necessary to develop and qualify the computer software application in all its development phases (requirements definition, architectural and detailed design, coding and integration, validation and verification, design reviews and qualification/certification audits)



interfacing and managing suppliers for outsourced activities and for the computer platform procurement coordinating and leading the development and verification team monitoring and managing the project in terms of schedule, costs and resources.

Requirements Degree in technical disciplines (e.g. Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering or Electronic Engineering)
strong problem solving capabilities and proactive customer satisfaction approach
good knowledge of spoken and written English
ability to work effectively in cross‑functional and geographically distributed team
project management skills
inclination to work in line with standards, rules and objectives
thorough understanding of the entire software development life‑cycle
Nice to have 2 to 3 years of experience as Avionic Subsystem/SW Engineer or similar role
knowledge of Real Time Safety Critical Embedded SW development aspects




knowledge of aeronautical standards and guidelines for safety critical software and systems development (DO‑178, DO‑254, DO‑160 and MIL‑STDs) or similar applicable to other contexts (e.g. automotive or railway standards)
knowledge of civil and military certification/qualification regulations and processes
SW design and development methodologies (UML, Model Based development, Matlab/Simulink modeling and testing)
knowledge of Aeronautical standard communication protocols and interfaces (i.e. Arinc 429, Arinc 664/AFDX and Arinc 653; Arinc 661)
knowledge of Ada, C/C++ programming languages
validation and verification methodologies
