Storage Logic, formerly H2D Energy
Who we are
H2D Energy is an innovative start-up headquartered in Cagliari and a pioneer in hybrid energy storage. The historical limitation of renewables is intermittency: we overcome it by integrating batteries, green hydrogen and intelligent control algorithms to turn a discontinuous production into clean, continuous and dispatchable energy, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Our proprietary technology, HyVault, covered by two patent applications, stores the surplus generated by renewable sources and delivers it back whenever needed — hours, days or entire seasons later: batteries cover the short term, hydrogen preserves energy over the long term without losses, and control algorithms orchestrate the whole system moment by moment. It is a scalable platform — from the few kWh of a home up to industrial and grid scale — already operating in the field, and now at the core of an industrial Proof of Concept for the decarbonization of a 350 MW thermoelectric power plant in Brazil.
The context you will work in
You will join our technical team at a time of strong acceleration: in Sardinia, alongside leading industrial and academic partners, we are building a real-world demonstrator of our technology — a photovoltaic plant of over 100 kWp integrated with battery storage systems, an electrolyzer for green hydrogen production and electric vehicle charging infrastructure — governed by a digital twin, control algorithms and artificial intelligence. In this journey, H2D Energy leads the development of the control algorithms for the operational management of the system: you will be at the center of this activity.
What you will do
- Develop the process design of the hydrogen chain of our product: electrolysis, gas conditioning (drying, purification), compression, storage, reconversion, and the associated thermal management.
- Size the hybrid storage system as a whole and design its electrical architecture: photovoltaic field, battery bank, electrolyzer and reconversion unit, power conversion and protections, power flows between the sections.
- Draw up and maintain the technical basis of the system: mass and energy balances, P&IDs;, equipment sizing, operating and safety parameters, interfaces between the H₂ section, batteries and PV.
- Define the functional and control requirements of the plant (operating modes, priorities, interlocks, safety-relevant shutdown logic) as the technical input for our algorithm development.
- Test and validate the control logic on the system's digital twin and take care of its calibration.
- Support the safety analysis of the product: hazardous-area considerations, HAZOP participation, review of gas detection and ventilation concepts.
- Specify components and evaluate suppliers from a technical standpoint: requirement lists, datasheet review, technical clarification with manufacturers.
- Accompany commissioning and the test campaign on the Sardinian demonstrator: test protocols, measurement evaluation, troubleshooting, feedback into the product design.
What we are looking for
- Degree in Energy, Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related fields (Master's degree preferred);
talented new graduates are also warmly considered.
- Process design skills applied to energy systems:
mass and energy balances, P&IDs;, equipment sizing, operating and safety parameters.
- Foundations in electrical system design: power conversion (inverters, DC/DC), protections, single-line diagrams, sizing of the DC and AC chains.
- Ability to size renewable energy systems (photovoltaics, battery storage, hydrogen) and to integrate them into a single plant.
- Modeling and simulation skills (Python and/or Matlab).
- A concrete interest in hydrogen, storage systems and renewables.
- Fluent English, spoken and written (a must).
Preferred qualifications
- Thesis or experience in electrolysis, hydrogen, power-to-X or hybrid storage systems.
- Experience with sizing and simulation tools for renewable plants (PVsyst, HOMER, Aspen, Simulink or equivalent).
- Practice with P&IDs;, single-line diagrams and CAD tools.
- Notions of process safety (ATEX, technical gases, HAZOP) and of the electrical standards applied to PV and storage plants (CEI, IEC).
- Optimization and control techniques (e.G. constrained optimization, MPC) and machine learning basics.
- 1–3 years of experience in plant engineering, energy or process roles.
- Knowledge of the Sardinian language.
What we offer
- A central role in the development of the algorithms governing a proprietary technology, covered by two patent applications, with a declared ambition of international leadership in hybrid storage.
- Fast growth and real responsibilities in an expanding start-up: those who join today help build tomorrow's company.
- Hands-on training on hybrid storage, green hydrogen and control systems, working with high-profile industrial and academic partners.
- Place of work: Cagliari.
