BM Diagnostics, in collaboration with the University of Urbino Carlo Bo, is seeking a highly motivated PhD Researcher to join an interdisciplinary research and development project focused on biomarkers of inflammation and the development of innovative Point-of-Care diagnostic technologies.
The PhD project will investigate the biological and biochemical role of Histone H3 and its citrullinated form, CitH3, with particular emphasis on their involvement in Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETosis) and the inflammatory response associated with sepsis.
A key objective of the project is to translate this scientific research into a technological application through the development of a lateral flow immunodiagnostic system for H3/CitH3 detection, combined with quantitative smartphone-based analysis.
Key Research Activities
The PhD researcher will contribute to:
Biological and biochemical characterization of H3/CitH3 and their role in NETosis and inflammation.
Design and optimization of experimental protocols for biomarker detection and quantification.
Development and optimization of a lateral flow immunoassay for Point-of-Care applications.
Analytical characterization of the diagnostic system, including sensitivity, specificity, limit of detection, precision, accuracy and reproducibility.
Development and standardization of smartphone-based quantitative image analysis.
Experimental data collection, statistical analysis and interpretation.
Development of datasets and experimental protocols for subsequent research and validation activities.
Scientific dissemination through conferences, workshops and potential peer-reviewed publications.
Collaboration between academic research and industrial R&D; activities, including technology transfer and prototype development.
