PLC Siemens Automation Programmer & Commissioning Engineer

Junior / Mid / Senior Level

Role Overview

As a PLC Automation Programmer & Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for software development, electro-mechanical testing, on-site commissioning, and technical support of automated material handling, logistics, and storage systems at customer sites.

The role combines hands-on commissioning activities with close collaboration with project, software, and on-site teams to ensure delivery in line with quality, performance, schedule, and budget requirements.

Key Responsibilities

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Develop and maintain PLC and control software with Tia Portal & Step 7 Siemens

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Prepare commissioning activities, including documentation, tools, specifications, and software packages

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Perform independent on-site commissioning of assigned machinery and systems

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Execute interface and integration tests with higher-level systems (e.g. MFS)

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Ensure compliance with safety standards, internal procedures, site regulations, process instructions and internal policies (travel policy, site report/journal, order and cleanliness, etc..)

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Collaborate with the On-Site Manager and multidisciplinary project teams

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Train customer personnel and support system handover after successful testing of performances and availability

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Identify faults, root causes, and improvement opportunities (CIP), including third-party systems

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Provide structured feedback to the Software Engineering department

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Manage software versioning, documentation updates, and final archiving

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Support technical hotlines and perform troubleshooting or service interventions as required

Profile & Requirements





·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Technical education in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or equivalent (apprenticeship with additional qualification acceptable)

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Proven experience in PLC programming, preferably Siemens Tia Portal & Step 7 (FUP, AWL, STL)

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Practical knowledge of drive technologies (asynchronous motors, servo drives, frequency converters)

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Experience with industrial communication systems (Profinet, Ethernet, Profibus, CAN, AS-i)

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Experience in intralogistics, material handling, or industrial commissioning is an advantage

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â High willingness to travel nationally and internationally (approx. 60–80%)

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Strong problem-solving skills, resilience under pressure, flexibility, and reliability

·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Good command of Italian and English; additional languages are a plus
