As Fishery Officer you contribute to FAO’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Division by supporting global policy processes, data analysis, and technical services. You will work with the NFIPI team to coordinate inputs to UN and global policy dialogues and to promote best practices in fisheries and aquaculture. You’ll engage with cross‑divisional teams, support capacity development, and help inform high‑level events and negotiations. The role offers a chance to impact policy, science, and sustainable management at an international scale.
Research and analyze fisheries and aquaculture data and policy issues to support programmes and publications
Produce technical data, statistics, and reports; contribute to technical documents and web content
Provide technical and analytical services for studies and assessments; backstop field projects
Develop or improve technical, statistical, analytical tools, databases, and indicators
Participate in or lead cross‑functional teams; collaborate with divisions and committees
Support capacity development activities including learning materials and online tools
Promote knowledge sharing at international meetings and influence stakeholders
Support resource mobilization aligned with the FAO Strategic Framework
Contribute to strategic NFI documents and UN/global policy inputs
Coordinate divisional engagement in UN conferences and regional networks
Assist the Secretariat for the Regional Fisheries Body Secretariats' Network
Perform other duties to support NFIPI as needed
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in marine, fisheries or aquaculture science or management, ocean governance, or related disciplines
Five years of relevant experience in marine, fisheries or aquaculture science, management or policy
Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish)
