Fondazione Telethon ETS
The Institute. SR-Tiget was created in 1996 as a joint venture between Fondazione Telethon and Ospedale
San Raffaele (OSR), with a mission to conduct cutting-edge research on gene and cell therapy and translate
its results into therapeutic advances for genetic diseases. The Institute is located on the OSR campus, which
includes a large research hospital, a biomedical research center, a university, and several biotechnology
companies. Over the years, SR-Tiget has made pioneering contributions to gene and cell therapy, with key
discoveries in vector design, gene transfer and gene-editing strategies, stem cell biology, and the identity and
mechanisms of action of cells in innate and adaptive immune responses. SR-Tiget has also built the resources
and framework to translate these advances into novel experimental therapies and has implemented several
successful gene therapy clinical trials, which have already treated >160 patients and led to the filing and
approval of 3 novel advanced therapy medicines. SR-Tiget comprises 19 Research Units, 5 Development
Cores, and 2 Clinical Units embedded within the San Raffaele Hospital. With a team of over 300 professionals
from more than 10 countries, the Institute continues to drive scientific innovation and deliver life-changing
therapies to patients worldwide.
