About The Project
Speech captured with body-conduction sensors is attractive for wearable devices because it can remain usable in noisy environments and when conventional microphones are not practical. However, this type of signal is typically bandwidth-limited and less intelligible than air-conducted speech, and it often requires speech enhancement to recover both intelligibility and perceived quality.
Recent AI-based speech enhancement methods can significantly improve performance but deploying them on wearable hardware remains challenging due to strict constraints on memory, latency, compute, and power consumption.
In this internship, the student will work within an R&D; team on a prototype bone-conduction earbud equipped with an ST vibrometer and an STM32 microcontroller (MCU). The objective is to optimize and deploy the current AI speech enhancement pipeline so that it can run efficiently and in real time on the target embedded platform.
