Mechanical engineering is truly an interdisciplinary field. Mechanical engineers are involved in the design, development, and manufacture of devices and systems that have moving parts,
across scales from nanotechnology to large aerospace systems. Mechanical engineers are critical innovators in almost every major field, including robotics and automation, aerospace and ocean engineering, materials and manufacturing, human health, energy, and environmental sustainability. Launching in 2027, Nature Mechanical Engineering will publish high-impact research across all application areas of mechanical engineering, as well as fundamental mechanics of immediate interest to the community. As the first broad-scope, flagship journal dedicated to mechanical engineering, it will connect academia, industry, and policymakers, showcasing the critical role mechanical engineers play in building a better future.
