Role Description
This is a full-time hybrid role based in the Greater Rome Metropolitan Area. The Power System Engineer will design, integrate, and test power supply and electrical systems for experimental and industrial machines for plasma confinement and compression systems. Working within a small, multidisciplinary team, the role requires full end-to-end ownership across all stages of electrical system development: from architecture and design, through simulation and prototyping, to system integration, commissioning,
and test.
The position covers power supply units up to MWs, operating in pulsed and quasi-stationary regimes. Responsibilities include creating and reviewing electrical design plans, ensuring the functionality of systems, and optimising performance for extreme-environment and high-energy applications. The role also requires collaboration with cross-functional team members to achieve project objectives.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in high-power PSU design, including pulsed topologies, energy storage and discharge systems, and high-voltage architectures
- Proficiency in power electronic components and systems: switching topologies, IGBT/thyristor/MOSFET/SiC/GaN drives, capacitor banks, high-voltage transformers, inverter design, gate drive design, magnetics, and thermal management
- Ability to design and implement basic closed-loop control systems and algorithms for PS
