We are looking for an Industrial Software Developer responsible for the migration, structuring, development, and validation of embedded applications running on CAREL programmable controllers, intended for the control of commercial refrigeration, HVAC, BMS/EMS, and energy management systems.
As an experienced software developer, the candidate is able to apply robust software engineering practices in an industrial environment, including modular architecture, object-oriented programming (OOP), Git, testing, documentation, APIs, and legacy code migration.
Key Activities:
- Analyze existing controller applications and define a clean migration strategy to recent CAREL platforms.
- Design a modular software architecture for IEC 61131-3 applications that are maintainable, testable, and scalable.
- Develop software in Structured Text (ST)
while applying CAREL development principles.
- Structure code around clearly defined functions, classes, interfaces, or function blocks.
- Establish and enforce Git best practices, including version control, code reviews, traceability, and release management.
- Create automated tests, unit tests, audit tools, and non-regression test matrices.
- Contribute to the integration of HMI interfaces, web applications, REST APIs, communication systems, and supervisory platforms.
- Collaborate with refrigeration specialists, commissioning engineers, and business experts.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in software development, industrial computing, automation, embedded systems, or software architecture.
- Proficiency in Structured Text (ST) or at least one object-oriented programming language such as C#, Java, C++, Python, or equivalent.
- Good understanding of software design principles, including modularity, abstraction, encapsulation, composition, interfaces, and the single responsibility principle.
- Knowledge of IEC 61131-3 languages, particularly FBD and Structured Text, to work on CAREL controller applications.
- Knowledge of Git and version control best practices.
- Ability to read, understand, refactor, and improve the reliability of legacy code.
- Strong commitment to software quality, including testing, readability, documentation, architecture, and maintainability.
- Ability to work with constrained, industrial, or embedded application systems.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with internal teams,
customers, technicians, and partners, understanding requirements, clarifying issues, and explaining technical decisions.
- Good written and spoken English skills in a technical environment, including documentation, supplier communications, reading manuals, tickets, and specifications.
