Metal Part Machining Operations focuses on operating computer and mechanically controlled machine tools to produce and repair precision metal parts for manufacturing equipment including: Analyzing computer-aided design (CAD/CAM/CAE) models and engineering specifications to define the dimensions and features of the metal part to be produced. Determining the optimal tool path for fabricating the part by selecting appropriate machine tools (e.g., lathes, drill presses, milling machines, grinders, boring machines, etc.) and specifying the sequence of tool operations. Manually setting up/adjusting machine tools and/or loading instructions into computer numeric control (CNC) systems.
Recommending revisions in design and/or substitutions in material based on machinability or fabrication problems encountered. A Support 3 requires broad knowledge of operational procedures and tools obtained through extensive work experience and may require vocational or technical education.
Responsibilities typically include: Works under limited supervision for routine situations.. Provides assistance and training to lower level employees.. Problems typically are not routine and require analysis to understand.
