Backend Engineer (Rust)Location: Rome, Italy Work Model: In-person first, with hybrid flexibility Contract: CCNL Metalmeccanici PMI (details in Compensation section)At Nimis Consulting, we build software for organizations that require security, reliability, and long-term maintainability from day one.We're growing our engineering team and looking for a Backend Engineer to help design and build modern distributed systems. The first assignment will involve the development of a new customer-facing product, working alongside engineers who care deeply about software quality, automation, observability, and secure-by-design architectures.We don't expect candidates to arrive with deep Rust expertise. Strong backend fundamentals, familiarity with distributed systems concepts, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to learn are more important to us.What You'll DoDesign and develop backend services in RustBuild distributed and asynchronous systemsContribute to architecture and technical decision-makingImprove system reliability, observability, security, and automationWork primarily on long-term products rather than short-lived implementationsWhat We're Looking For2+ years of professional experience developing backend applicationsFamiliarity with the challenges of distributed and asynchronous systems, including concepts such as eventual consistency, idempotency, and event-driven architecturesProficiency with Git workflowsFamiliarity with Linux and containerized environmentsAble to comfortably read and write technical documentation, design documents, and engineering discussions in EnglishStrong engineering judgment to ensure correctness, security, performance, and maintainabilityComfortable using AI-assisted development tools to increase effectiveness while maintaining critical thinking, code ownership, and engineering rigorCuriosity, pragmatism,
