Mezzocielo
An innovative 1-meter diameter hollow sphere, filled with a liquid featuring optimal optical properties, will simultaneously monitor the entire sky using hundreds of cameras, enabling the real-time study of transient and unpredictable astronomical phenomena.
Role Description
The research activity will focus on the conceptual design of the control software for the scientific cameras of the MezzoCielo instrument demonstrator. The role involves collecting and analyzing high-level hardware and software requirements, followed by conceptual design, prototype implementation, and test-based verification.
Particular attention will be devoted to the efficient management of the high data throughput generated by the instrument and its integration with scientific pipelines.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy, or Computer Science; or
Master's / Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy, or Computer Science with at least 3 years of documented experience.
Skills
Programming in Python, C, and/or C++;
High-performance networking in a Linux environment;
Software development support tools (version control, build, and testing tools);
