Backend Engineer (Rust) Location: Rome, Italy Work Model: In-person first, with hybrid flexibility Contract: CCNL Metalmeccanici PMI (details in Compensation section) At Nimis Consulting, we build software for organizations that require security, reliability, and long-term maintainability from day one. We're growing our engineering team and looking for a Backend Engineer to help design and build modern distributed systems. The first assignment will involve the development of a new customer-facing product, working alongside engineers who care deeply about software quality, automation, observability, and secure-by-design architectures. We don't expect candidates to arrive with deep Rust expertise. Strong backend fundamentals, familiarity with distributed systems concepts, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to learn are more important to us. What You'll Do Design and develop backend services in Rust Build distributed and asynchronous systems Contribute to architecture and technical decision-making Improve system reliability, observability, security,



and automation Work primarily on long-term products rather than short-lived implementations What We're Looking For 2 years of professional experience developing backend applications Familiarity with the challenges of distributed and asynchronous systems, including concepts such as eventual consistency, idempotency, and event-driven architectures Proficiency with Git workflows Familiarity with Linux and containerized environments Able to comfortably read and write technical documentation, design documents, and engineering discussions in English Strong engineering judgment to ensure correctness, security, performance, and maintainability Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools to increase effectiveness while maintaining critical thinking, code ownership, and engineering rigor Curiosity, pragmatism, and willingness to continuously learn Nice to Have Professional experience with Rust TypeScript knowledge Famili
