The Role
We are seeking an experienced Metallurgy Manager to lead metallurgical strategy, materials engineering, testing, failure analysis, quality assurance, technical standards, and continuous improvement across manufacturing, engineering, and operational activities.
The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership on material selection, alloy development, heat treatment, corrosion, welding, mechanical performance, metallurgical testing, failure investigations, and material qualification while ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement metallurgical strategies aligned with business, engineering, manufacturing, and product objectives.
- Lead metallurgical engineering activities across material selection, qualification, processing, testing, production, and quality control.
- Provide technical guidance on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, alloys, coatings, and engineered materials.
- Evaluate material requirements for new products, equipment, components, structures, and industrial applications.
- Establish material specifications, acceptance criteria, technical standards, and metallurgical procedures.
- Lead material selection based on mechanical performance, corrosion resistance, temperature, pressure, wear, fatigue, and operating environment.
- Review material certificates, heat records, traceability documentation, and supplier technical documentation.
- Develop and manage metallurgical testing programs for raw materials, components, welds, and finished products.
- Oversee mechanical, chemical, metallographic, corrosion, hardness, toughness, fatigue, and other specialized testing.
- Manage metallographic examination, microscopy, microstructure evaluation, and phase analysis.
- Evaluate heat-treatment processes including annealing, normalizing, quenching, tempering, solution treatment, aging, and stress relief.
- Monitor heat-treatment parameters and assess their impact on material properties and product performance.
- Support welding engineering through weld procedure qualification, weldability assessment, heat-affected-zone evaluation, and post-weld heat treatment requirements.
- Provide metallurgical support for welding, fabrication, machining, forming, casting, forging, and additive manufacturing processes.
- Lead material failure investigations involving fracture, fatigue, corrosion, cracking, wear, deformation, overheating, and manufacturing defects.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions for material-related failures.
- Evaluate fracture surfaces, microstructures, inclusions, defects, corrosion mechanisms, and other evidence during investigations.
- Develop corrosion-management strategies for equipment and materials exposed to aggressive operating environments.
- Assess corrosion mechanisms including general corrosion, pitting, crevice corrosion, galvanic corrosion, erosion-corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and hydrogen-related damage.
- Support selection of corrosion-resistant alloys, coatings, linings, inhibitors, and other protection systems.
- Evaluate material degradation, remaining life, fitness for service, and asset integrity requirements.
- Support inspection, non-destructive testing, and condition-monitoring programs from a metallurgical perspective.
- Review material and component designs for manufacturability, durability, reliability, and lifecycle performance.
- Lead material qualification and approval programs for new suppliers, alloys, processes, and components.
- Establish supplier qualification requirements and technical evaluation criteria.
- Review supplier manufacturing processes, quality systems, testing capabilities, and metallurgical controls.
- Support procurement teams in evaluating technically compliant material suppliers and specifications.
- Investigate material non-conformances, customer complaints, production defects, and recurring quality issues.
- Develop corrective actions and verify their effectiveness through testing and performance monitoring.
- Establish metallurgical quality-control procedures and inspection plans.
- Maintain material databases, specifications, test results, failure records, and technical documentation.
- Ensure material traceability throughout procurement, manufacturing, testing, storage, and delivery.
- Support research and development activities involving new alloys, advanced materials, coatings, and manufacturing technologies.
- Evaluate emerging technologies such as additive manufacturing, advanced high-strength materials, digital metallurgy, computational materials engineering, and automated inspection.
- Develop metallurgical models, testing methodologies, and data-analysis approaches where appropriate.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, maintenance, procurement, HSE, and research teams.
- Provide technical support for major projects, equipment upgrades, plant expansions, and product-development initiatives.
- Ensure metallurgical activities comply with applicable industry codes, standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
- Lead technical reviews, audits, investigations, and metallurgical assessments.
- Manage external laboratories, testing facilities, consultants, specialist engineers, and technical service providers.
- Define technical scopes, deliverables, quality requirements, and performance expectations for metallurgical vendors.
- Manage metallurgical budgets, testing costs, laboratory resources, equipment investments, and improvement programs.
- Identify opportunities to reduce material costs, scrap, rework, failures, testing time, and production losses.
- Promote continuous improvement, technical knowledge sharing, standardization, and engineering best practices.
- Develop the technical capability of metallurgical engineers, technicians, inspectors, and laboratory personnel.
- Provide management with regular reports covering material performance, quality, failures, testing, risks, costs, projects, and improvement opportunities.

Ideal Candidate The successful candidate should have strong experience in metallurgy, materials engineering, materials science, manufacturing metallurgy, corrosion engineering, welding metallurgy, or industrial materials management , preferably within oil and gas, petrochemicals, mining, metals, manufacturing, power generation, construction, or heavy engineering.
