Description
BB&E; is seeking an experienced Architect to support NAVFAC EURAFCENT Headquarters in Naples, Italy. The Design Architect will provide professional architectural services and consultation for planning, design, construction, maintenance, demolition, space utilization, and facilities development supporting the Navy, Marine Corps, and other Supported Commands. This position is contingent upon contract award.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare architectural and interior-design plans and specifications; review third-party designs and cost estimates; and provide recommendations on programming, space planning, sustainable practices, and code compliance
- Develop conceptual designs, charrettes, and 35%, 50%, pre-final, and final construction documents for diverse shore-facility types
- Apply comprehensive architectural knowledge across programming, planning, design development, sustainability, analyses, codes, drawings, specifications, and cost estimating
- Review construction drawings and specifications for architectural and engineering systems and coordinate interdisciplinary Government reviews for content, completeness, schedule, and system integration
- Ensure designs follow current practices and comply with DoD, Navy, international, Host Nation, life-safety, accessibility, environmental, energy, permitting, real estate, and utility requirements
- Coordinate technical and administrative requirements and approvals with local, national, Host Nation, and other authorities
- Conduct AE office inspections and field investigations, evaluate latent conditions and interfaces with existing work, and report on AE progress
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate design execution to meet design and construction budgets and allotted schedules
- Interpret contract drawings and specifications, resolve disputes, evaluate change orders, prepare Independent Government Estimates, and support contractor claims and RFIs
- Support post-award design and construction submittals, shop drawings, and change orders from cost and scope perspectives; maintain detailed files and present analysis results
- Apply budgeting, planning, project-management, team-leadership, safety, and personal protective equipment requirements throughout assigned work
Requirements
- Federal/Government Experience: Professional architectural facilities-design experience on U.S. Department of Defense or similar government-agency projects
- Codes & Criteria: Knowledge of DoD and Navy criteria, UFCs/UFGS, IBC, NFPA 101, industry standards,
and standard architectural design practices
- Host Nation Requirements: Knowledge of local, state, federal, and foreign-country laws, codes, and statutory requirements affecting design across the NAVFAC EURAFCENT AOR
- Multi-Discipline Coordination: Knowledge of related architectural and engineering fields and their impacts on architectural design
- Software: Knowledge and experience with Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit, Microsoft Office, architectural design and analysis tools, and applicable DoD systems
- Project Delivery: Ability to monitor planning, design, and construction activities for multi-disciplined vertical and horizontal projects through successful completion within schedule and budget
- Communication: Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English; CEFR C1 is preferred, and B2 is the minimum
- Location: Willingness and ability to relocate to and work on site in Naples, Italy
- Background Investigation: Ability to successfully pass required security background investigations
Experience & Education
- Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of professional, code-compliant facilities design experience for new construction, including renovation design, supplemented by substantial hands-on facilities-design experience
- Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from a NAAB-accredited course of study, or international equivalent, is required
