Junior Equity Long/Short Analyst
Location: Milan, Italy
AUM: €400m
Strategy: Equity Long/Short, Market Neutral
The Role
My client (hedge fund) is searching for a Junior Equity Long/Short Analyst to join their investment team in Milan, working closely with a Senior L/S Portfolio Manager with 20 years of experience.
They take an opportunistic and tactical approach to investing, typically over a 3–6 month horizon. The Analyst will play an active role in building & updating financial models, researching stocks, and leveraging AI to drive efficiency to the investment process; supporting the Senior Portfolio Manager.
Responsibilities
- Build detailed financial models from scratch and maintain them as new information emerges.
- Conduct deep fundamental analysis of companies, financial statements, industries and competitors.
- Monitor news flow, earnings, corporate developments and market expectations.
- Identify mispriced opportunities and develop clear catalyst paths over the relevant investment horizon.
- Speak directly with company management and Investor Relations.
- Challenge assumptions and continuously update the investment case as facts change.
- Explore and implement AI and agentic AI tools to improve research, information gathering, and the investment process.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for someone with 1–4 years of experience from one of the following backgrounds:
- Sell-side / Equity Research
- Investment Banking / M&A;
- Buy-side / Asset Management
- Accounting, with strong financial statement analysis experience
The ideal candidate is:
- Intellectually curious and genuinely interested in investing.
- Highly analytical, with strong financial modelling and accounting fundamentals.
- A strong communicator, comfortable engaging with senior colleagues, management teams and Investor Relations.
- Adaptable and energised by a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.
- Already familiar with AI, with a genuine willingness to incorporate agentic AI into the investment process.
