Location: Turin, Italy Full-Time Salary Range: €50,000 - €70,000

Join ORiS and help build the future of energy in space.

At ORiS, we are pioneering the next generation of Space-Based Solar Power (SBSP) technologies. Our mission is to redefine how energy is generated, transmitted, and utilized beyond Earth through cutting-edge orbital infrastructure, autonomous robotic systems, and breakthrough engineering.

As a Senior Control Systems Engineer, you will take technical ownership of the control architecture and validation of ORiS precision pointing and tracking systems, including spaceborne laser payloads and LOONA.

You will lead solutions for dynamic modelling, feedback control, optical line-of-sight stabilization, disturbance rejection, motion control, and the integration of mechanical, optical, electronic, sensor, actuator, and embedded-software elements.

What You Will Do

Own control architecture, performance budgets, operating limits, interfaces, and verification strategy.

Lead modelling and controller design for coarse, intermediate, and fine-pointing stages.

Select appropriate classical, state-space, optimal, adaptive, feedforward, observer, and disturbance-rejection techniques.

Lead system identification, frequency-response analysis, model correlation, tuning, and experimental validation.

Define and review MIL, SIL, HIL, laboratory, field, and system-level test campaigns.

Resolve complex issues involving flexibility, vibration, backlash, friction, timing, saturation, noise, and integration.

Guide Embedded/Firmware and Robotics engineers through implementation and transfer to real-time platforms.

Mentor engineers and interface with mechanical, optical, electronics,

and systems stakeholders.

What We Are Looking For

MSc or PhD in Control Engineering, Automation, Robotics, Mechatronics, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

5+ years of relevant professional experience delivering control systems on physical hardware.

Expert knowledge of control theory, dynamics, modelling, system identification, and MATLAB/Simulink.

Demonstrated experience with precision pointing, stabilization, motion control, or high-performance mechatronic systems.

Strong programming skills in C++ or Python and understanding of real-time implementation constraints.

Ability to contribute in technical decisions, communicate trade-offs, mentor colleagues, and work across disciplines.

Professional proficiency in English.

Nice to Have

Spacecraft attitude control, GNC/ADCS, optical terminals, telescopes, fast-steering mirrors, or pointing-error budgets.
