This is an opportunity to take full technical ownership of the secondary engineering scope on complex HV substation projects, working from concept design through to execution. You will play a key role in delivering reliable protection, control, communication, and auxiliary systems that support critical energy infrastructure across the Netherlands.

The Role
As Senior Secondary Design Engineer, you will lead the detailed secondary engineering on HV substation projects up to 500kV. Your work covers the full scope of secondary systems including protection philosophies, control narratives, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, auxiliary power systems, and substation communication networks. You will be involved from early concept design through to detailed execution and your technical ownership of deliverables is expected throughout.
Your Responsibilities

- Leading detailed secondary engineering for HV substations up to 400kV.
- Developing protection philosophies, functional specifications, and control narratives.
- Designing protection and control schemes, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
- Performing AC and DC calculations, CT and VT sizing, cable sizing, and relay selection.
- Engineering auxiliary power systems and substation communication networks.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver complete,
high-quality engineering packages.
What We’re Looking for
-
- 10 or more years of experience in secondary engineering for HV substations.
- Strong experience in protection and control design with proven expertise in panel design, wiring, and schematic drawings.
- Solid knowledge of protection relays, telecom systems, and LAN networks.
- Experience with detailed engineering of transmission infrastructure.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
- IEC 61850 experience.
- Battery sizing knowledge.
- Medium-voltage project experience.
- ELCAD-AUCOPLAN experience.
