Generali Operations Service Platform (GOSP) is looking for a Senior Application Architect to join Generali Core Tech’s IT Engineering team.

The person in the role owns the analysis and technical design of application solutions and remains actively involved in implementation — both in traditional software engineering and in agentic development models .

The candidate will operate with a 360° architectural view, close to that of an Enterprise Architect, with a strong Java/backend core, a solid command of the software lifecycle, and the ability to lead both architecture teams and delivery teams in an international

Financial Services context.

This is a build-from-scratch environment. Working closely with enterprise architecture, security, infrastructure, product, and delivery stakeholders, the successful candidate will help establish architecture standards, engineering foundations, and delivery practices across countries where platforms, processes, and teams are still being created.

Key responsibilities of the role

- Lead end-to-end analysis and technical design of application solutions, from business intent to target architecture, domain model, API/integration contracts, and implementation blueprints.
- Define architecture decisions, quality attributes, and explicit trade-offs (modularity, scalability, resilience, security, operability, and cost), documenting them as reusable standards and ADRs.
- Remain hands-on in Java backend development, contributing to core services, APIs, persistence, messaging, and critical integration paths — not only reviewing the work of others.
- Design and deliver agentic engineering capabilities (tool-using agents, multi-agent workflows, evaluation, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop controls) alongside traditional delivery practices.
- Provide a 360° architectural view across applications, data, integration, security, and cloud, aligning solution design with enterprise architecture principles without losing implementation depth.
- Lead and coach a community of architects: design reviews, reference architectures, reuse, and consistent architectural governance across teams and countries.
- Lead delivery teams as technical authority: shape the technical backlog, set quality bars, run design and code reviews, and make software delivery predictable.
- Design cloud-native solutions that account for cloud specificities, including identity, networking, tenancy, elasticity, data residency, observability, cost, and the operational model.
- Govern the software lifecycle (SLCM): CI/CD, testing strategy, quality gates, release management, production readiness, and operability of the solutions designed.
- Shape greenfield international programmes: establish reference architectures, engineering foundations, and ways of working where the technical landscape is still to be built.
- Ensure solutions meet Financial Services expectations on security, auditability, data protection, resilience, and regulatory alignment.

Requirements

- Proven experience as Application,



Solution, or Software Architect, with a strong hands-on Java/backend background rather than a purely governance-oriented profile.
- Deep knowledge of Java and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, REST/API design, persistence, messaging, testing) and the ability to write and review production-quality code.
- Solid command of application architecture patterns (modular monolith, microservices, hexagonal/clean architecture, event-driven design) and the judgement to choose them against real constraints.
- Demonstrated ability to lead both architecture teams and delivery teams, combining technical authority with coaching, prioritisation, and stakeholder management.
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and engineering practices across design, build, test, release, and operate.
- Practical experience designing for public cloud (preferably Azure) and container platforms, including cloud-specific constraints and opportunities (identity, networking, scalability, resilience, data residency, cost).
- Hands-on experience with, or a clear ability to adopt, agentic software engineering: LLM-based agents, tool/function calling, prompt and specification design, evaluation, and operational guardrails.
- Experience in Financial Services or insurance, including security, data protection, auditability, and operational resilience considerations.
- Comfort operating in international, greenfield or transformation programmes where architecture, platforms, and delivery models must be built from the ground up.
- Strong communication, structured problem-solving, and the ability to work with senior business and technology stakeholders across countries.
- Fluent English.

Nice to have:
- Enterprise architecture exposure (capability maps, integration landscapes, target operating models) while remaining close to application design and code.
- Experience with event-driven platforms (e.g. Kafka), API platforms, and integration patterns in complex core domains.
- Knowledge of domain-driven design applied to insurance or financial products (party, policy, claims, or equivalent core domains).
- Experience introducing AI-enabled and agentic delivery models into existing engineering organisations.
- Azure, Kubernetes, Java, or architecture certifications.
- Additional European languages.

What we offer We offer employment at the manager level with the relevant salary, in accordance with the CCNL ANIA for non-executive employees and the Generali Group Company Agreement.

Gross annual salary ranging between 55K€ and 65K€.
