Regional Manager – Data Centre Design | Milan The Role
We are looking for an experienced Regional Manager to establish and grow our data centre design capability in Milan.
This is a key leadership role combining business development, team building and technical design leadership. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the Italian data centre market, established local relationships and the credibility to develop new client opportunities while building a high-performing technical team from the ground up.
With a strong mechanical or electrical engineering background, you will provide technical leadership across projects while working closely with clients, design partners and internal teams to deliver coordinated, high-quality solutions.
The role will suit someone who understands how the local market operates, knows where the opportunities are and has the ambition and ability to turn those opportunities into a sustainable regional business.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and develop the Milan regional design team from the ground up.
- Recruit, develop and retain high-quality mechanical, electrical and multidisciplinary design talent.
- Build a strong local technical culture focused on quality, collaboration and client delivery.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key data centre clients, developers, contractors, consultants and industry partners across Italy.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the Italian data centre market.
- Lead proposals, bids and client presentations through to successful appointment.
- Develop a sustainable regional pipeline and contribute to the wider business development strategy.
- Act as a senior local representative of the business within the Italian data centre sector.
- Provide technical leadership across data centre design projects.
- Oversee the coordination and delivery of mechanical and electrical engineering solutions.
- Ensure projects are delivered to appropriate technical, quality, programme and client requirements.
- Provide oversight of design management, technical interfaces and multidisciplinary coordination.
- Promote effective use of BIM and digital design processes across the team and projects.
- Work closely with project managers, design managers, BIM teams, engineers and external consultants.
- Support project planning, resourcing, programme management and commercial performance where required.
- Establish consistent design standards, processes and quality controls within the regional team.
- Keep the team informed of relevant Italian and European standards, regulations, technologies and industry developments.
- Share knowledge and best practice with the wider business and other regional teams.
Experience Required
- Significant experience within the data centre / mission-critical design sector.
- Strong knowledge of the Italian data centre market, ideally with an established network of relevant client and industry relationships.
- Proven experience developing client relationships and winning design consultancy work.
- Demonstrable experience building,
leading or significantly developing technical teams.
- Strong mechanical or electrical engineering background.
- Good understanding of multidisciplinary building services design.
- Experience working with BIM, digital engineering and coordinated design processes.
- Understanding of design management and the interfaces between engineering disciplines.
- Experience working alongside or within project management teams.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of consultancy business development.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Professional fluency in Italian and English.
The Person
We are looking for someone who combines technical credibility with entrepreneurial drive.
You will understand the Italian data centre market and have the relationships, reputation and knowledge required to establish a meaningful presence in Milan.
You will be equally comfortable discussing technical solutions with an experienced engineer, presenting a proposal to a major client, recruiting a new team member or developing a strategy for winning the next project.
Most importantly, you will be someone who wants to build something.
