ppbTITLE: Field Controls Technician FLSA: Non-Exempt /b /p pbUPDATED: 08/15/2026 DIVISION: DSS /b /p pbREPORTS TO: Customer Care Manager /b /p h3Summary /h3 pProvide technical support and troubleshooting service to customers over the phone, virtually, and at their facilities to install, repair, and optimize KraussMaffei equipment. /p h3Essential Responsibilities /h3 ul liSystematically and efficiently analyze, troubleshoot, and restore function to KraussMaffei equipment. /li liCommission KraussMaffei equipment and follow standard procedures to ensure customer satisfaction and successful handoff. /li liReview work completed, costs, time, and additional work identified while on site with manager and customer as needed. /li liCreate thorough and detailed service reports that include description of visit, work completed, costs, time, and additional work identified. /li liConduct customer training relating to the operation and maintenance of KraussMaffei equipment and products. /li liLead and train less experienced service personnel as needed. /li liFollow standardized procedures. /li liCollect requisite information to create standardized procedures when opportunities are identified. /li liPlan and lead RPM controls and automation work. /li liCollaborate with RPM team on strategic vision, sales leads, and plan of execution. /li /ul h3Behavioral Performance Expectations /h3 ul liLives our Values, Customer Focused, Collaborates – Considers actions, behavior, and communication to foster a positive outcome regardless of situation and audience. calipers, multimeter, power tools, air tools, hydraulic testing equipment) /li liAbility to operate lifting equipment such as forklifts, scissor-lifts and other mobile lifts /li liBasic knowledge of electrical components (High voltage 480V/220V, Low Voltage, fuses, relays, contactors, motors) /li liBasic knowledge of PLC programming and function (Allen Bradley, Sigmatek, Siemens) /li liBasic understanding of mechanical assemblies (conveyors, sprockets, belts, pulleys, gearboxes, centrifugal pumps, vacuum pumps) /li liBasic knowledge of pneumatic conveying and troubleshooting (controls, actuators, or valves) /li /ul h3Technology Specific Competencies /h3 pInjection Molding / Extrusion: /p ul liAbility to read hydraulic and electrical schematics as well as navigate OEM documentation /li liUnderstands equipment function: Able to identify equipment functional locations and state general equipment functions for injection molding machine sub-assemblies (clamp unit (IM), plasticizing unit, injection unit, hydraulic unit, and robots) /li /ul h3Reaction Process Molding /h3 ul liAbility to work collaboratively with local and cross functional technical teams during service visits and large-scale installations /li liAbility to read chemical flow schematics, hydraulic flow schematics, electrical schematics as well as navigate OEM documentation. /li liUnderstands equipment function: Able to identify equipment functional locations and state general equipment functions for RPM equipment (hydraulic presses, electrical presses, rotary conveyors, hydraulic unit, and robots) /li liUnderstands function of and can troubleshoot E-Stop circuitry /li /ul h3Supervisory Responsibility /h3 pThis position has no supervisory responsibilities. /p h3Work Environment /h3 pThis job operates primarily at KM customer’s sites, although some technical support may be provided from the home office as directed by management. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and forklifts. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. While on site, field service engineers are required to adhere to customer requirements for identification, safety, PPE, and all GMP’s. /p h3Physical Demands /h3 ul liThe employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. /li liThe employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. /li liSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. /li liAbility to work in a constant state of alertness required. /li /ul h3Expected Hours of Work /h3 pThis is an hourly, non-exempt, full-time position with standard working days/hours of Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm with paid overtime as necessary to complete required tasks. Actual working hours may vary based on needs of customers. /p h3Travel /h3 pInjection Molding / Extrusion: Travel is significant, primarily in a multi-regional area and during the business day, although out-of-the-area and overnight travel is very frequent. Travel to Germany or other international locations, while not likely, is possible for training/conferences. Approximate travel is 80%. /p pReaction Process Molding: Travel is significant (85% and greater), in a multi-regional area which includes Canada, Mexico as well as the US. Travel at times, during large scale installations, can extend to multiple weeks within reason. All travel requires overnight stays at the location unless the drive is less than two (2) hours. /p h3Required Education and Experience /h3 ul liHigh school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related field preferred. /li liMinimum of 2 years of experience troubleshooting, commissioning, installing, and servicing industrial equipment in a manufacturing or field service environment. /li liWorking knowledge of PLC-based control systems, electrical schematics, industrial automation equipment, and related diagnostic tools. /li liAbility to analyze and resolve electrical, controls, and mechanical issues in a fast-paced customer environment. /li liCompetency in workflow software (MS Office, Innosoft, Concur, SAP) /li /ul pKrauss-Maffei Corporation is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
