Description
As our global footprint continues to grow, we are looking for a Global Market Access Knowledge Specialist specializing in Building and Fire Codes and Hazardous Locations, HazLoc, to support our Global Market Access, GMA, Knowledge Services team.
The successful candidate will provide technical research, regulatory insights, and consultancy regarding international Building, Fire, and HazLoc requirements. The role will focus on interpreting and applying global regulations, codes, standards, and certification schemes, including ATEX, IECEx, UL, CSA, NEC, CEC, and other regional requirements applicable to building safety, fire protection, and equipment intended for use in explosive atmospheres.
You will collaborate with internal teams, customers, certification bodies, authorities, UL partners, and other industry stakeholders to address regulatory challenges, support product compliance, and facilitate access to international markets. You will also monitor regulatory developments, translate complex technical requirements into clear business guidance, and contribute to the expansion of GMA knowledge services across multiple markets and product categories.
Although the role is based at our Italian office, this is an excellent opportunity to make a significant international impact by supporting the implementation of UL’s Building, Fire, and HazLoc regulatory strategy. The role will help customers meet compliance and sustainability objectives and successfully access global markets, with a particular focus on North American regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a key technical and regulatory contact for compliance requirements related to Building and Fire Codes, Hazardous Locations, specific countries, and international market access programs.
- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis of regulatory requirements, standards, certification schemes, and local acceptance conditions across multiple products, countries, and regulatory frameworks.
- Produce clear, accurate, and high-quality research reports, regulatory assessments, executive summaries, and customer-facing guidance based on applicable regulatory information.
- Interpret and provide guidance on regulations and standards including:
- Building and Fire Codes
- ATEX Directive
- IECEx Scheme
- North American HazLoc requirements, including NEC and CEC
- UL and CSA standards
- Other regional fire safety, building safety, and explosive atmosphere requirements
- Provide point-of-access support to address local acceptance issues and help internal teams and customers understand specific market requirements.
- Monitor regulatory trends, track changes in codes and standards,
and communicate upcoming developments and their potential impact on customers, products, and business activities.
- Maintain regulatory documentation, technical knowledge, and relevant information within applicable databases and knowledge-management systems.
- Act as a point of contact with certification bodies, authorities, regulatory organizations, UL partners, and industry stakeholders to obtain, validate, and maintain the knowledge required for research and service-delivery projects.
- Coordinate regulatory research and studies involving multiple products, regulations, markets, and countries, working independently while seeking guidance for particularly complex or ambiguous matters.
- Connect regulatory requirements with customer needs, compliance challenges, sustainability objectives, and potential business opportunities.
- Identify opportunities for new or expanded GMA services and communicate them clearly to relevant internal stakeholders and Centres of Excellence or business units.
- Support GMA business expansion activities by tracking opportunities, collaborating with internal teams, and monitoring related business results.
- Work directly with internal teams and customers to evaluate compliance challenges and propose practical, technically valid solutions based on regulatory knowledge and previous experience.
- Build effective relationships and facilitate collaboration among internal and external stakeholders working toward common compliance and market-access objectives.
- Support the development and delivery of GMA knowledge services and customized regulatory solutions.
- Contribute to the consistent delivery of high-quality knowledge services and, where required, coordinate day-to-day service activities.
- Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and comply with all physical and digital security practices.
- Perform other duties as directed.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in Building and Fire Codes, Hazardous Locations, regulatory compliance, product certification, or a related technical field.
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering or another relevant technical specialization.
A qualification in International Relations or a related field may also be considered where supported by relevant regulatory experience.
- Strong knowledge of international or regional Building and Fire regulations, codes, and standards.
- Strong knowledge of HazLoc standards and certification schemes, including ATEX, IECEx, NEC, and CEC.
- Familiarity with North American regulatory requirements, including applicable UL and CSA standards.
- Familiarity with HazLoc marking requirements, protection concepts such as Ex d, Ex e, and Ex i, and relevant conformity-assessment processes.
- Good understanding of the Testing, Inspection, and Certification, TIC, industry and the sectors in which the business operates.
- The ability to connect regulatory requirements with customer needs, compliance solutions, and business opportunities.
- Excellent analytical, technical research, and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to interpret technical documentation, regulations, standards, and complex compliance requirements.
- The ability to work effectively in ambiguous situations, make sound decisions, understand customer challenges, and propose valid regulatory solutions.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to present technical and regulatory messages to different audiences.
- The ability to summarize complex requirements and explain difficult technical concepts in clear and accessible language.
- Strong networking and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage internal and external stakeholders and facilitate collaboration toward common objectives.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Proficiency in another language is highly desirable, and additional languages are considered an advantage.
- The ability to manage multiple research activities, regulatory topics, countries, and stakeholder expectations effectively.
What we offer:
We understand that remuneration and benefits are important when deciding on your next career move. The annual salary range for this position is EUR 31.200 - 41.500 gross, determined by numerous factors, including knowledge, skills, and experience (Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA): Commerce Sector - Job Classification Level: Level 3). This position also offers an annual premio of up to 10% of annual salary.
