Role Description The Medical Records Specialist is a tempo parziale, remote role responsible for accurately organizing, updating, and maintaining electronic medical records. On a day-to-day basis, this role involves reviewing patient documentation for completeness, verifying data against source information, and ensuring records comply with internal policies and regulatory standards. The specialist will respond to record requests, support providers and staff with access to necessary patient information, and help resolve discrepancies or missing data.
Additional tasks may include data entry, indexing and scanning documents, assisting with audits, and following privacy and security procedures to protect sensitive health information. The role requires consistent communication with clinical and administrative teams through digital channels while working independently in a remote environment.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong Medical Records skills, including organizing, updating, and maintaining patient files.
- Candidates should possess knowledge of Medical Terminology to accurately interpret and process clinical documentation.
- Candidates should possess Health Information Management skills, including understanding of data integrity, privacy, and regulatory compliance.
- Candidates should possess a basic understanding of Medicine sufficient to follow clinical workflows and support providers.
- Candidates should possess Customer Service skills to respond professionally to internal and external record requests.
- Attention to detail, accuracy in data entry, and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and standard office software.
- Knowledge of HIPAA or equivalent patient privacy regulations; prior experience in a healthcare or medical records role is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certification in health information management is beneficial.
