About the Position: Costing Engineer
As a Costing Engineer, you will support our Purchasing organization by developing reliable cost models for purchased components and defining fact-based target prices. Working across sourcing, product development, and mass production, you will analyze materials, manufacturing processes, logistics assumptions, and supplier cost structures to identify cost drivers and improvement opportunities.
You will work closely with Purchasing, R&D;, Project Management, and Controlling, providing the technical and financial insight needed to strengthen supplier negotiations, improve competitiveness, and support product profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed cost breakdowns and cost models for purchased components using dedicated costing tools and methodologies.
- Analyze product design, materials, manufacturing processes, and logistics assumptions to estimate realistic component costs.
- Identify key cost drivers and evaluate the financial impact of design, material, or process changes.
- Support Purchasing and Project teams in defining target purchasing costs during RFQ and sourcing phases.
- Benchmark supplier quotations against internal cost estimations and identify potential cost gaps.
- Analyze and validate supplier cost structures to support transparent and fact-based commercial discussions.
- Provide technical cost analysis and negotiation levers to Buyers and Segment Leaders during supplier negotiations.
- Identify cost-reduction opportunities through design optimization, process improvements, and alternative sourcing strategies.
- Support project teams throughout product development to ensure components remain aligned with target cost objectives.
- Monitor cost evolution during mass production and contribute to continuous cost-reduction initiatives.
- Maintain and continuously improve costing models, methodologies, and cost databases.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D;, Purchasing, Project Management, and Controlling to support strategic sourcing decisions.
Skills & Competencies We're Looking For
- 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in product costing, cost engineering, purchasing, industrial engineering, or a related field.
- Strong product costing and cost-analysis capabilities.
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes and the main technical cost drivers of industrial components.
- Ability to analyze supplier cost structures and translate technical data into clear commercial insights.
- Strong data-analysis skills and confidence working with costing tools and cost databases.
- Understanding of purchasing processes and the ability to support supplier negotiations with fact-based analysis.
- Knowledge of financial and cost-accounting fundamentals.
- Good understanding of supply chain and logistics cost elements.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.
- Fluent English; French is an advantage.
