Overview

As Head of the Mathematics Section at ICTP, you will lead a team of research scientists to define and drive new research directions, ensuring scientific excellence and strategic impact in developing countries. You will build international partnerships, oversee programme design, and mentor junior researchers, aligning with ICTP's mission to foster scientific capacity. You will represent ICTP at global events and guide cross-divisional collaboration to advance mathematics research.

Responsabilità
- Identify and manage research activities; advise on priorities for the Senior Coordinator
- Build partnerships with leading institutions and coordinate collaborations
- Recruit staff and research fellows; oversee resource planning
- Provide scientific guidance and mentoring to staff, fellows, and visitors
- Represent ICTP at international meetings and report on results
- Advise on educational and training programmes in mathematics
- Contribute to scientific agreements with institutions and governmental bodies




- Support capacity building and donor relations; advocate for mathematics in developing countries
- Organise and select scientific meetings and ICTP external activities in developing countries
- Apply for and manage individual research grants

Requisiti fondamentali
- Ph.D. or equivalent with at least 10 years of postdoctoral research experience in Mathematics or related field
- Strong publication record and international recognition
- Experience in designing, implementing and managing scientific projects
- Experience in teaching/mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Experience in donor relations and scientific outreach
- Experience coordinating and managing collaborations with developing countries
- Proven ability to supervise teams
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Intellectual leadership and ability to motivate a large, diverse team
