About the Role
AXIS is Deltatre's user experience management platform, used by BritBox, Sportsnet+, DYN, Bell Media, beIN, and other OTT operators to control native app experiences across iOS, Apple TV, Android, and a long list of streaming devices. The iOS engineering team builds the applications that deliver AXIS-powered experiences to millions of consumers on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. As a Senior iOS Engineer, the role works end-to-end on user-facing features, from requirements refinement through architecture, implementation, and release. The postholder helps shape the iOS side of the platform, contributes to architectural decisions, and coordinates iOS engineers within the team. The role sits within Deltatre's Engineering & Technology department.
Key Responsibilities
- Refine and estimate requirements and contribute to product and engineering planning.
- Develop new user-facing features for iOS and Apple TV using Swift.
- Build reusable components and libraries for future use across the platform.
- Translate designs and wireframes into high-quality production code.
- Optimise components for performance across iPhones, iPads, and Apple TVs.
- Define and contribute to the architecture of digital solutions.
- Plan delivery effectively, producing robust, modular, and testable code.
- Coordinate the work of iOS engineers within the team.
- Contribute to Deltatre engineering procedures, code conventions, and best practice.
- Stay current with developments in iOS and UI engineering relevant to the platform, working within Scrum methodology.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 5+ years' relevant engineering experience, including at least 2 years at Senior iOS Engineer level.
- Recent hands-on experience with SwiftUI (2+ years).
- Deep proficiency in Swift.
- Thorough understanding of Apple system frameworks, including Foundation, UIKit, AVFoundation, StoreKit, and others.
- Demonstrated unit-testing practice with XCTest.
- Familiarity with Apple app submission, code signing, and iTunes account administration.
- Comfortable with instrumentation testing and optimisation.
- Comfortable with Git, build automation, and continuous integration.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Experience working with a global team or employer.
- Produce work that others can build on.
- Take ownership of features from refinement through release.
- Treat the iOS platform as a craft, not only a delivery target.
- Make architectural decisions that hold up over multiple release cycles and document them clearly enough for the team to use after moving to the next problem.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with libraries commonly used in the team, such as Alamofire, BrightFutures, emitter-kit, and Kingfisher.
- Familiarity with Facebook SDK, Fabric, and Crashlytics.
- Experience with In-App Purchase implementation.
- Background in the sports domain.
- Genuine interest in Apple TV development.
Workplace
- Candidates must be based in Italy; the role is offered on an Italian employment contract.
- Remote working from outside Italy is not supported due to local employment and tax legislation.
- The role falls under CCNL Commercio | D.Lgs. 96/2026.
Salary
- Salary starts from €30,000 at entry level rising to €90,000 for those with significant relevant experience. Placement depends on experience, technical background, and the stack the candidate brings. Candidates whose expectations sit outside the range are encouraged to apply for an open conversation.
Benefits & Perks
- Internal progression is assessed through a structured process combining a technical assessment and a competency-based interview.
The Application Process
The process includes an introductory conversation, a take-home assessment, a 1-hour technical interview, and a 1-hour competency-based interview. Candidates unsure which level is right are encouraged to apply and indicate where they think they sit. Accessibility and accommodation questions are welcome at any stage, and adjustments can usually be made if any format would be difficult.
1. Introductory conversation to get to know each other and answer questions about Deltatre.
2. Take-home assessment: a practical exercise completed in the candidate's own time, designed to show how they approach a real engineering problem; used as the basis for the technical conversation.
3. 1-hour technical interview: deep dive into experience, the take-home assessment, and technical decisions made in past work.
4. 1-hour competency-based interview: situational questions around how the candidate deals with real-life scenarios at work.
