Role Overview
This role exists to turn process ideas into processes that hold: it owns the steps that take a Dynamic Drop™ recipe from a promising result to something repeatable on a partner's substrate. Sample preparation, wet and electrochemical processing, sample post-processing, inspection and metrology are the daily toolset. It is for an engineer who already knows their way around a lab and wants to own processes rather than execute them.
Key Responsibilities
Own process steps end to end. Sample preparation, wet and electrochemical processes, sample post-processing, inspection and metrology tools: you set the parameters, define the process window, and are the reference for all of them.
Design experiments, not just run them. Build the test matrix and size it so the outcome will actually be conclusive — DoE and applied statistics rather than one factor at a time.
Find root causes. When yield drops or a dimension drifts, take the problem apart methodically — data, equipment, material, method — instead of changing three things at once.
Turn results into standards. Write the procedures and best-known methods that keep a process alive when you are not in the room.
Own the equipment and what it costs. Qualification, maintenance planning and acceptance of new tools; the technical dialogue with suppliers; and the case for the tooling and consumables your processes need, inside the budget agreed.
Work across the lab. With electronics, chemistry, mechanics and production, so that a process that works on a sample also works on a product.
Bring the junior engineer and the technician up. Not a formal management line, the practical kind: at the bench, on the numbers, on the reasoning.
Requirements
Degree in Materials Science, Materials or Mechanical Engineering,
or a closely related technical field.
3 to 7 years hands-on in a lab, pilot line or process production environment.
Regular cleanroom experience, and at least one process you can honestly say you owned.
Semiconductor process familiarity from direct experience: electrochemical deposition and plating are the closest fit; thin films, microfabrication, laser processing and advanced packaging are close enough.
Data skill you can defend: distributions, variability, capability, DoE, in Python, R, JMP or Minitab.
Fluent English, written and spoken. Italian is a plus.
Judgment about safety: chemicals, lasers and cleanroom discipline are not negotiable.
Who you are
Hands-on, genuinely. This role does not delegate the bench work away; you keep doing it.
Precision and traceability. Your results are reproducible by someone else, because your record is good enough for them to follow.
Curiosity and initiative. You go and look. You propose the experiment before it is asked of you.
Clear technical writing. An unreadable report is a result that does not exist.
Directness. Small team, short cycles, visible mistakes. We value people who say what they think early and change their mind when the data says so.
Open mindset. You are not afraid to challenge assumptions, and you want to contribute to advancing the state of the art.
Why Join Us
Your process work ships inside a product rather than ending in a report, and the scope grows as the line and the team grow.
Being honest about the job
You will spend a significant part of your week gowned and standing, and the work alternates between the interesting problem and the careful repetition that makes the interesting problem solvable. The team is small: there is no layer between you and the decision — and none between you and the consequence either.
