Ingegnere elettronico - Controls

Location: Lainate (MI), Italy
About the job
Do you want to help build tomorrow’s world? Welcome to Carlo Gavazzi, an international organization
specialized in the development, manufacturing, and distribution of Industrial Automation Components.
Our global footprint includes 23 owned sales companies and manufacturing plants across the Americas,
Europe, and Asia Pacific. Our Group’s products (sensors, monitoring relays, timers, energy management
systems, solid state-relays, safety devices) provide automation solutions for the global markets of industrial
and building automation.
Are you the engineer who wants to follow a circuit all the way, from the first schematic to the test report
that clears it for production? Then you can have a day in a versatile development team at Carlo Gavazzi.
Our Control Product Line designs energy meters, from standard models to advanced platforms that carry
embedded Linux on board for data storage and for every kind of IoT service. Three topics come back in
every new design: measurement performance, firmware that is fully compliant with the Cyber Resilience
Act, and industrialization.
You will join the Controls R&D; group in Lainate, reporting to the R&D; Manager, and you will work as one
team with our colleagues in Belluno and in Kunshan, China.
What does this mean?
You design the electronics of our energy meters and you take them through verification and validation.
In this team, they are one job, not two: the person who draws the circuit is the person who plans how to
test it.
Your task will include:
- C reation of the electrical diagram of analog and digital circuits, selecting all relevant components;
- Work on measurement performance: accuracy, stability, noise, the choices in the signal chain that
decide what the product is able to measure;
- Definition of tests list for each project, starting from requirements and the execution methods prescribed
by the standards that apply to energy meters;
- Verification and validation of the prototypes: electrical safety, EMC, environmental and other requirements
according to applicable standards;
- Elaboration of test reports in a structured, coordinated and detailed way;
- Identification of critical points and finding the solution, then feeding what you learn back into the design
- Use of professional instrumentation (oscilloscopes, calibrators, power analyzers, climatic chambers)
and software that controls instruments, test and communication functions of the meters;
- Working with AI tools to analyze circuits, simulate and anticipate problems before they reach the test
bench;
- Collaboration with firmware designers: you need to understand how the firmware is structured to find
the best compromise between a hardware solution and firmware, and since secure boot, secure update
and secure storage rest on a hardware root of trust, microcontroller and memories are a decision you
have to take together;
- Design for industrialization: from concept generation to prototyping, technical elaboration and
production start-up;
- K eeping an eye on both time and budget while selecting state-of-the-art components, that is a challenge
itself.

Our laboratories
Our EMC laboratory in Belluno is equipped to run the full pre-compliance campaign before the official
certifications at the external bodies. Furthermore, we run a laboratory accredited by UL under the Client
Test Data Program, where our technicians receive specific training to execute UL tests. You will work in both,
and the position therefore works regularly in Lainate as well as in Belluno.
Who you are
- You are a qualified engineer with at least 3 years of experience in hardware design, holding a degree
in Electronic Engineering or a related technical field with solid electronics content;
- You have knowledge of hardware design principles, methods, tools and techniques;
- You feel at home in a laboratory: you know the instruments and you are able to understand when a
measurement is valid before writing it down;
- You are interested in the border between hardware and firmware: you read embedded C, and you can
sit down with a firmware designer and agree on which side of the boundary a problem is better to be
solved;
- You work with AI tools as part of your method, to analyze, simulate and anticipate problems before they
reach the test bench;
- You are autonomous on the assigned tasks, you organize your own work so that test campaigns run
efficiently, and you keep your colleagues up to date;
- You speak and write both Italian and English fluently, as we are part of an international group;
- You are flexible: product development could be funny, but also unpredictable;
- You are very hands-on and pragmatic.
Why should you apply?
- You will be joining an international team of enthusiastic and passionate colleagues.
- You will be working on the design and development of truly unique products, end-to-end. Yes, you can
be an inventor! There is nothing more thrilling than seeing your work out there on the market.
- You will have professional laboratories at your disposal and the training that goes with them, so you
can prove your design yourself instead of waiting for someone else’s verdict.
- Carlo Gavazzi is a fast-growing company, so you can grow with us and grow in your area of
expertise or interest.
- And yes, Carlo Gavazzi is an award-winning company! We want to excel in what we do, it’s no walk
in the park but our hard work pays off.
Compensation
The minimum gross annual salary for this position is from €45,000, to be defined based on the
candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications.
