Senior Industrial Controller – Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Finance

Role Overview A Senior Controller is sought to join the management control team of a manufacturing business operating across make-to-stock and project-based production. The role focuses on industrial controlling, inventory valuation, project cost monitoring and management reporting, providing financial insights to support business performance and strategic decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Industrial Controlling & Raw Materials
- Monitor raw material valuation and inventory accounting movements.
- Analyse material recycling, regeneration and purchasing cost trends.
- Prepare forecasts and cost analyses to support industrial planning and purchasing decisions.
Month-End Closing & Inventory
- Coordinate monthly industrial closing activities.
- Verify inventory and production records, adjustments and exceptional transactions.
- Calculate and validate closing inventory and work-in-progress (WIP) valuations.
- Monitor obsolete and slow-moving stock, inventory turnover and related KPIs.
Project Controlling & Cost Accounting
- Monitor the allocation of costs, labour hours and materials to projects.
- Analyse project financial progress and variances against budget.
- Manage capitalisable activities and internally manufactured assets.
- Maintain standard product costs, analyse cost variances and calculate production hourly rates.
- Allocate indirect costs and support pricing decisions through cost and margin analysis.
Management Reporting
- Prepare reclassified management income statements and financial reports by cost centre, product line, project and customer.
- Deliver profitability analyses and financial insights to support management decisions.
- Complete relevant ISTAT and PRODCOM statistical reporting.
- Support auditors and external consultants, ensuring accurate data records and traceability.
Process Improvement
- Contribute to sales controlling, budgeting and forecasting.
- Develop dashboards and Business Intelligence tools.
- Automate reporting processes and strengthen management control systems.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of relevant controlling experience in the metalworking or manufacturing sector, ideally in cost-centre and project-based environments.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial statements, general accounting and industrial cost accounting.
- Experience with cost control, project financial analysis and budget variance monitoring.
- Expertise in inventory valuation, WIP, budgeting, forecasting, profitability analysis and pricing.
- Understanding of manufacturing and production processes.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems; Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is preferred.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
