SENIORITY
Experienced technician to senior specialist The opportunity
Chematek is seeking a capable laboratory professional to join our analytical and product development team at our headquarters near Milan.
The position combines essential laboratory activities — testing, sampling and quality control — with more advanced formulation work and analytical problem-solving. It offers the opportunity to contribute directly to product quality and technical development while taking on broader responsibility in line with experience.
The role is based in our laboratory and supports Chematek’s Refinery Services Division, with particular emphasis on fuel markers, solvent dyes and related refinery chemicals. It also involves close collaboration with our commercial and techno-commercial teams and participation in international catalyst sulfiding assignments. The position reports jointly to the Head of Laboratory and the Head of Refinery Services.
About Chematek

From our headquarters near Milan and our international network, we serve customers across refinery services, petrochemicals, fine chemicals, engineering and lubricants. Our laboratory plays a central role in maintaining quality and developing effective technical solutions.
The role The successful candidate will combine a dependable, hands-on approach to routine laboratory work with the judgement and initiative to contribute to formulation projects and technical investigations. The scope of responsibility will reflect the experience and seniority of the individual.
Laboratory analysis & quality control
- Carry out routine chemical, physical and instrumental analyses of raw materials,
intermediates and finished products.
- Prepare, label, analyse and retain samples, standards, reagents and solutions, including samples for customer evaluation and external laboratories.
- Perform quality-control checks against specifications; accurately record and interpret results; prepare reports, certificates of analysis and supporting technical documentation.
- Support equipment calibration and routine maintenance, sample storage, inventory management, safe working practices and general laboratory organisation.
- Investigate out-of-specification results, analytical discrepancies and product-quality issues, proposing practical corrective actions.
Formulations & product development
- Support formulation development and optimisation, particularly for Chematek’s fiscal markers, solvent dyes and related refinery chemicals.
- Prepare experimental blends and assess solubility, stability, compatibility, concentration and performance against technical and customer requirements.
- Contribute to analytical method improvement, alternative raw-material evaluation and product adaptations for specific applications.
- Plan and follow through laboratory trials and technical investigations, with increasing autonomy according to experience.
Technical & commercial collaboration
- Work with commercial and techno-commercial colleagues to translate customer requirements into appropriate testing plans, sampling and technical investigations.
- Interpret analytical findings, communicate clear conclusions and recommend practical next steps to support product and customer decisions.
- Participate, where appropriate, in technical discussions with customers and suppliers, keeping internal teams informed of findings and progress.
International field operations
- Participate in refinery and petrochemical assignments as part of Chematek’s specialist field teams, including catalyst sulfiding operations.
- Assist with on-site sampling, chemical preparation and handling, technical checks and assigned operational activities under established procedures.
- Coordinate with field specialists and site personnel while adhering rigorously to health, safety and environmental requirements.
- Be available for project-driven international travel, potentially up to 50%, and the operational schedules associated with refinery work.
Candidate profile
We welcome applications from experienced Periti Chimici and chemistry graduates, as well as more senior analytical or formulation specialists. Practical laboratory competence, technical judgement and the ability to work across functions are central to the role.
- Diploma as a Perito Chimico or a degree in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline, with relevant practical laboratory experience.
- Working knowledge of analytical techniques such as GC, HPLC and UV-Vis (or comparable methods), laboratory QC, sampling and documentation.
